I love PC Connection for this kind of thing. They let you sort by all kinds of differences, one at a time, until you're left with a few you can actually compare. I think they let you compare 5 at a time.
in this vein - I have had little to no complaint on my Acer Aspire. There are a couple of things I'd upgrade - Windows 7 full not Lite, battery with 6 instead of 3 storage cells and the RAM from 1 to 2 Gig - and it was cheap! But I wasn't looking for powerful "replace work" machine, I was looking for something to read LJ on in the UK. Mission accomplished! hehehe
I just bought a 10 inch Lenovo S10, and so for I love it. It's not actually a netbook, but it's the same speed for about the same cost. It's just an older tiny laptop. The difference is that it's going to last me longer because netbooks are made to be disposable. I got it on Amazon.
I just bought an 11" Acer Timeline 1810TZ, about the same size as a netbook, but with a proper processor and decent RAM. And about 9.5 hours battery life (seriously). Its t3h awesomeness, I recommend it highly.

i'm sure that you can get one with better specs right now, but from what i can tell, the brand is solid.
