So another nice long trundle on the bike on sunday, Nottingham - Newark - Belvoir - Nottingham:

Twas a bit windy. Was ever so happy with having got to Newark in about an hour, unfortunately that also coincided with turning back into the wind, so the rest of the ride wasn’t quite so fast. And there was me thinking that I’d improved :). Did mean I ( Read more... )

I have a fancy garmin 500 with the cadence and hr belt to let me know that I'm about to die. It tells me that I'm about 10 foot off the ground when I get back home (as in 10 ft higher than when I started).
I chickened out of riding at the weekend due to a. the howling round the eaves sonds b. the threat of rain. 25mm tyres can seem too thin in normal conditions let alone side winds :O
I'm taking tomorrow off as no wind and no rain though the weather forecast will probably change tonight :( Planning to cycle to Tutbury via Repton to avoid the hill down to the Trent on the A511 near Burton which will be about 44 miles. Then considering going on to Uttoxeter for a 66 mile trip on the basis of planning to cycle to my parents/sisters place near Crewe on a convenient weekend and Uttoxeter is almost half way there. no points of interest in Uttoxeter to aim for and apparently This is England was filmed there so mebbe I'll stop at the edge or no further than Tutbury (the castle is regrettably closed till April)

That's a more modern version than I'm using. I've got an old Forerunner 301 mainly for running. I've got the chest strap so I can do HR as well, and probably should.

25s should be fine, that's what I've got fitted on mine at the moment. I've not quite got to the point of booking days off for rides yet, though I may be tempted.

Isn't tutbury's greatest claim to fame that it once hosted a small gothic music festival?

It once hosted Mary Queen of Scots when they were carting her around the country to be held prisoner in various castles. I think there's a small glass works there too.
Yup Trevor did run a one off goth festival there. I assumed without checking the ticket that it was saturday/sunday so missed VNV/Covenant on Friday so got Star industry,Inertia,Ultra-LagerViolence on the Saturday. He did try and book The Creatures to headline Saturday but they wanted too much money.

25s give the jitters on steep hills, I prefer the 35s on my hybrid which requires servicing.
