Random Smallville Thought

Does anyone remember the DVD commentary from Rosetta? I'm sure you do. :-)

There's a part in the episode where Clark throws away his family tree paper and misses the garbage so it lands on the floor (I think). Later on, you see Lex holding the paper and showing it to the professor so you're basically led to believe that Lex picked up the paper off ( Read more... )

It makes me less frustrated because I guess I rationalize that if the writers/producers/creators don't have a good reason for why certain things happen the way they do, then I shouldn't spend that much time trying to come up with my own sensible reasoning behind it. Or something like that.

That reminds me of the panel Michael and James Marsters did together at DragonCon, where they talked about how neither one of them knew what the hell was going on during S5, and how they would practically beg for more information so they could craft a decent performance, and yet TPTB still kept them in the dark. I think stuff like that is part of why Michael left.

I wonder if it's different now. I mean, I'm sure they don't talk to Tom that way anymore, but he said that as a producer he wanted to bridge the gap between the actors and the production side. I wonder if that kind of stuff is part of it. When he directs, we've certainly heard how willing he is to discuss motivation and characterization with the actors. And this season we've been hearing about actors spending a day in the writers room, or having a meeting with TPTB to discuss their character.

A scene with Lex picking up random garbage would have been so silly, it would have broken the mood of the episode!

He asked the producer/director/someone in charge (Greg Beeman, I think?) why in the world Lex would pick up garbage. The answer that Michael got (according to Michael) was, "He just does!" The way MR says it is really funny too.
I love the voice Michael uses there!
