If you need a foray into the Light and Fluffy, I can recommend John Galsworthy's The Forsyte Saga - I'm about 2/3 of the way through now, and enjoying it even more than I did the Masterpiece Theater miniseries, which is saying something.

Yeah, Lansdale (like Hiassen) writes crime as a series of sequences that work rather than an actual plot.

But then, over in humour, that's Wodehouse's way.

I can understand wanting time, though.
