I was grouchy and cranky all yesterday afternoon, but I made it to DD#1's 'back to school night' despite that.

Have you read Stephen Hawking's "Universe in a Nutshell"? He talks a lot about the physics of time loops... Basically, the interface between looped time and linear time would be very unstable (explosive style unstable), and any time travel device with a 'finite footprint' (i.e. limits on how far back in time or how much space can be affected) is at risk for developing them....
