Ghost Dancer
by John Chase
For some reason, I've gotten sucked into listening to podiobook 'thrillers', so I decided to pick up one for a read. This one is about a mad genius who's gotten his hands on one of Tesla's lost notebooks, and is building a super weapon, out for revenge... Can't go wrong, right?
It wasn't terrible, but I've got to admit that it's just not my genre. I found a lot of what are probably classic thriller 'bits' just annoying and predictable. Although not done 'stupid', the Al Queda connection and the utter incompetence of the authorities were just annoying to me, although I could see why they were necessary plot elements. The 'love conquers all' bit at the end was surprisingly well handled, but I couldn't buy the fact that the villain's unwitting widow would end up with the millions.
If you're looking for a popcorn read, it's worthwhile. I think I'll keep looking around, though.

Evidently written to sell the idea as a cartoon series, the book is fast moving and fun. A bit bloody for a YA book, but no more so than a lot of anime targeted at the same audience. If we all go out and buy a copy, maybe an animation studio will pick it up... and mangle it entirely. :(
Very cool book, though. Much happy.
