Character Information

General
Canon Source: DC Comics
Canon Format: Western comics
Character's Name: Talia al Ghul, sometimes known as Talia Head or the Daughter of the Demon
Character's Age: It’s never made implicitly clear, but since she apparently met Bruce Wayne at age 18, and they now have a ten-year-old son, I would place her age at somewhere around 30.
Conditional: If your character is 13 years of age or under, please clarify how they will be played. n/a

What form will your character's NV take? A high-tech bangle that can be worn on the wrist and then pulled apart into a more traditional-looking communicator. (x)

Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Trained from a young age to be both an expert combatant and the heir to an empire, Talia is a brilliant hand-to-hand fighter and also a capable business woman. She is shown to best Selina Kyle in combat, is skilled with any number of weapons (which range from long swords to hand guns), and also controlled LexCorp for an extended period of time. Her intellect and training mean that she can and has functioned as an assassin, a scientist, and a mogul. Additionally, Talia’s youth and lifespan have been extended through the use of Lazarus Pits, which have revitalizing effects on anyone submerged in them. It could be said that Talia possesses preternatural longevity, but because this ability is contingent upon access to the Pits, it will not be something that carries over in-game.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? Because of Talia’s tendency to become emotionally attached to obsessive levels, I’d like to give her the ability of emotional psychometry. Essentially, if/when she mastered the power, she’d be able to use objects to make psychic readings with the person/people the objects were associated with-brief glimpses of the past, the person’s emotional state, and perhaps even scrying for said person. However, this would take a long time to develop, and initially, it would take objects of very strong significance to trigger ever brief flashes of information. (A significant object would be, say, the knife that Talia gave Jason. Additionally, if she had an emotional connection to the person, the power would be stronger).
Weapons: Talia nearly always carries weapons on her person. The most significant of these are two twin swords of eastern style that she was seen wielding the last time she came to Gotham (x). She also usually has a small handgun, but if this is too many weapons she can arrive with just the swords and not the gun.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: Talia@ the DC Wiki
Point in Canon: After Batman and Robin #6. After Bruce Wayne’s apparent death, Talia has left their son Damian in the care of Dick Grayson, the new Batman. During this time, Talia continues to run her criminal empire. However, after Damian becomes the newest Robin, he is left paralyzed after being attacked by Flamingo. Talia’s medical team goes to pick him up and return him home. The sight of her son in such a state is not something quite new for Talia, and thankfully she is prepared. Her expert lab replaces Damian’s spine, and she has just made the decision to have nano-technology also installed there, as a way of “winning her son back” from Dick Grayson. Talia has just finished having a conversation with Wayne butler Alfred Pennyworth about Damian, and it is at this point that she will be pulled into Siren’s Port.
Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: n/a

Character Personality: Talia al Ghul is, to put it simply, a study in extremes. Her hatred can be deadly, her love is eternal, and her obsession is legendary. She is a strong-minded, intelligent, and ruthless woman who is used to getting what she wants and pulling the strings. However, behind all of this, Talia is also a woman who experienced a traumatic and damaging childhood, who has been denied the love of everyone she has ever cared for, and who has had to swallow defeats in the areas she perhaps cares about most. This combination of traits creates a woman who can be a deadly foe or a staunch ally, depending on how she is treated.

Talia characterizes herself based on her relationships with the men in her life. She is the Daughter of the Demon, Ra’s al Ghul. An immortal mastermind who goes beyond normal human emotions, Ra’s was not, perhaps, the best person to raise a child. While he sometimes heaps praises upon Talia and calls her the most perfect of women, he is also incredibly demanding and unforgiving of her. Talia, in return, grew to be starved for genuine affection. She is also a perfectionist, constantly trying to prove herself to her father-as the lynch-pin in his plots, as the leader of his enterprises, and as a truly capable heir to his empire. Because of this, Talia does not tolerate failure, least of all from herself. Ra’s also gave Talia her unique sense of morality: that some people’s lives are worth more than others, and that his-and by extension, Talia’s-family is the most important of all.

The mother of Bruce Wayne’s child, Damian, Talia also considers herself to be the only woman who is worthy of the Batman. She met him when she was eighteen, and was immediately smitten. If this is because he was the first man ever considered worthy of her, it also is key to note that Talia has loved him ever since then, and so this emotion is no small thing. She saves Bruce on numerous occasions, and has even stood with him against her own father-who is, as discussed above, the formative force in her life. When Bruce no longer returns these affections, it has an interesting twist on Talia’s personality. She, on a few occasions, asks him to join her in ruling the world, or to reform her completely. This displays that Talia’s sense of morality isn’t contingent upon what she sees as “right” or “wrong,” but rather upon her getting what she wants at all costs. It should also be noted that when Bruce rejects her, she does not go into hysterics or rage, but rather coolly sets about planning her next move. Though she feels things deeply, she is not often derailed by these emotions.

She also has a strongly maternal side. Chronologically, the first time it is displayed is in her relationship with Jason Todd, but Talia is, perhaps more importantly, the mother of Damian Wayne. In the Resurrection of Ra’s al Ghul, Talia is shown to do whatever it takes to protect her child-she goes against her father and Bruce. In this series, we also see that Damian and Talia are, or at least were, very close, despite the fact that she raised him in much the same way she was raised-amongst the League of Assassins, in a less that wholesome environment. Talia even goes so far as to ignore Damian’s own wishes, taking him out of battle when he would have rather stood with his father. This displays another of Talia’s traits: that she trusts no one so much as herself, and always believes that she knows what is the best thing to do. Since this arc, her relationship with her son has become strained and complicated, but Talia has always stated her love for Damian, perhaps even above her love for Bruce. She wants him to be a leader, a conqueror, and where Damian’s wishes contradict her plans for him is where their relationship fractures.

Talia has not had a lot of female influence in her life. Her mother died when she was incredibly young, and her sister Nyssa turned out to be using Talia as a pawn. Nyssa’s treatment was perhaps one of the most traumatic experiences of Talia’s life; she honestly loved her sister and believed that Nyssa returned the sentiment, but of course she did not. Talia gives her heart out to her family-Bruce and Jason included-very easily, but that love is not often returned in the same measure. This is probably what has shaped Talia’s cold, calculating, and manipulative personality the most. She has no confidants, no parental figures other than the demonic and abusive Ra’s, and no family, especially once Damian goes to Gotham.

All said and considered, Talia is a woman who can be ruthless and manipulative, but also warm and incredibly compassionate. It is she who shows mercy to Jason Todd after she finds him, and aids him back to health. This relationship also displays that Talia can become attached quickly to those she initially finds only “useful.” Her relationship with Jason spans years, and eventually turns from maternal to sexual, which also hints at Talia’s inability to separate different forms of love. Beyond this softer side, however, Talia is also a woman who looks out for herself and her loved ones above all else. The world outside could be burning, but if she and those she looks after are safe, then she is satisfied.

There is also the question of just how far Talia would go to get what she desires. While earlier depiction of her and Bruce’s relationship have shown it to be consensual, more recent ones have said it was not. However, since those recent depictions are all retroactive, it seems safe to characterize her as she was portrayed in the issues in which those events took place-that is to say, with both her and Bruce as willing participants in their romance. Despite her ruthless nature, the amount of affection she has for Bruce makes it unlikely that she would force her attentions on him in that way.

She is often called a princess, and this is how she often acts-entitled, regal, and powerful. Talia is a woman to be reckoned with, who could siphon away your family’s fortune or slice you open from head to toe. She cares little for the value of human life, has no problem using people, and will always, always try to twist any given situation to her advantage. It is how she survives, and how she copes with the weakness of loving those who do not love her in return.

Conditional: Personality development in previous game: n/a
Character Plans: Talia’s calling card is turning situations to her advantage. Therefore, upon arriving in Siren’s Port and discovering no easy way home, she would have three goals: one, keeping herself alive; two, becoming someone who has wealth and power in this new world; and three: reclaiming the relationships that had previously been lost to her. Given who she is, Talia will take what is not given willingly, but she is also a very subtle person when it comes to planning and waiting to reap larger rewards. She’ll make alliances where she sees fit, but ultimately she will only be out for herself and those she truly cares for.

Appearance/PB: Different artists have different interpretations, but all agree that Talia is a beautiful woman with long, dark hair. She is mixed, ethnically, and has paler skin and exotic eyes. ( x).

Writing Samples

First Person Sample( Her voice is clipped and businesslike. She sounds lofty, bored almost, but anyone who had heard her when she actually was relaxed would notice the slight rush in her tone. )

There seem to be a number of interesting things taking place here. It’s charming, really, how quickly so many of you panic. And those of you who have been here longer? It’s pathetic how quickly you give up.

( There is a slight huff, and rustle of noise. Metal scrapes against metal, heels click against the rough ground. )

I do not need the basics explained to me. What I do need is information on a young boy who may have arrived with me. He is ill, and needs his mother.

…I would thank you for the assistance.

Third Person SampleThere was a lingering sense of dizziness that set Talia’s temper on edge. It was one thing to be ripped away from what she was doing and dumped in this wasteland, but to have her senses addled in the bargain was to add injury to insult. It had taken her only a few minutes to gain her bearings, and another few to make her away to some privacy. Dusting off the ground as best she could, she knelt, teeth clenched. She needed to think.

A new world, a darker world. Or perhaps one that simply looked as dark as it was, and didn’t dress up that fact. Talia decided she liked it better when things were dressed up that way; she had never been one for bluntness, and liked it when even the truth was set up to its best advantage.

It was becoming increasingly apparent that she couldn’t stay here; there were some-looking about as addlebrained and confused as she felt-being ushered into a parking lot. But Talia refused to be led; she rose to her feet and made her way towards the others, brushing off the supposed assistance and going through of her own power.

It was not a sudden relief, but it was more open and Talia grew calmer, more able to process. If she was here for the time being, she would need to quickly gain a measure of this place, and not draw unwanted attention. Damian was, most probably, still in the care of her scientists, with Pennyworth there with him. But if she was here, that meant that he could be, too. In that case, it was imperative that she found him. He was still weak, would be vulnerable after the operation. She trusted him to keep himself safe, but there was no use taking chances.

“So that’s that, then,” she muttered to herself. She would go through these charades, ask only bland questions, and find out as much as she could. And if her son was here, she would find him, and then she would get both of them home.
