Dude, 30" isn't worth it for HDTV. Unless you're hooking it up as your computer monitor you wont be sitting close enough when watching it to get much benefit above a similarly sized SD set. If you're a good 5/6/7+ feet away the extra detail on that 30" screen wont come through as noticeably as on a larger screen, plus HDTV's dirty little secret is that most HD sets look horrible when playing SD content as every little defect that a good old CRT hides very well is made glaringly clear on most plasma and LCD HD sets. Believe me when I tell you this, paying down a loan instead of buying an HDTV right now is very much the smart thing to do not only on a fiscal level but also an enjoyment level. When those 50" screens cost a quarter as much as they do now and they've finally worked out the kinks that make current sets play SD content like crap in a couple years you'll be glad to afford one then because you paid down that loan now.

Oh yeah I wanna pay down my loan and I am gonna do it its just I'm tempted to get something nice to display all the multimedia stuff I buy on.
Mostly I'd just be using it for DVDs and gaming and from all the podcasts and blogs and etc I've read the Wii is notorious for making old games look great on HD TVs no matter how gloriously low-res it is. And I actually know quite a bit out the HD tv technology as HP was really pushing thier TVs while I was working there so we had to know all the ins and outs so that we could convince anal retentive people how good they were (and not one to tow the company line I did my own research). And on the size issue I dont need anything 50" or so I dont have any place with enough room between the tv and the furniture to use that size and being 10" from a 50" set makes it look much worse then an equivalent 30".
