Busy busy busy. Bee-like, even! I feel ridiculously smug, almost, in my level of general accomplishment lately, which is a self-deluding way of excusing the fact that I HAVE worked on a research-slash-art project that isn't due until the 3rd of December, but HAVEN'T thoroughly cleaned in so long that the standing daily hair-bunny pile is more ( Read more... )

Ahhh memories...

I went to university in Victoria, so for 5 years I did the ferry thing multiple times a year. The first few times were exciting!

The next 4 years, I was poor, so doing the ferry thing meant taking the bus from campus downtown, then from downtown to the ferry terminal (1.5 hour trip by bus, 36 minutes by car) then walking on to the ferry ($6 at the time) whilst being crippled by the amount of crap we were lugging in backpacks.

Finding a reasonably comfortable place to lie down in large groups on the ferry and attempting to ignore the screeching children for the 90 minute crossing.

Trudging off the ferry and into the waiting arms of whichever sibling or parental unit was volunteered into driving the hour plus from Abbotsford to Tsawassen to pick us up.

The last year, I had a CAR and no longer cared about being poor - I treated the ferry ride like an extended stoplight where you turned your car off, pulled out the novel and read for 90 minutes, whilst inhaling diesel fumes.

Good times, good times...

Yeah, luckily, I am wildly easily amused and distracted by shiny things, so any thing that involves a coffee kiosk AND a pretty view is absolutely golden by me. If I HAD to take it, and had luggage, and couldn't take my car, I'd probably dig my heels in and cry, but that's mostly because I am spoiled and lazy - I'd probably still gad about the observation area giggling at the pretty things as soon as I'd made my way onto the boat. :)

I really only saw Nanaimo as I was leaving it; we got there after dark and left practically at dawn, 'cause it was just a stop along the way. As such, all I know about it is strip malls and a really, really pretty view from the ferry.

and, yes, she IS indeed the cutest little frumpbutter EVER.

HI AS WELL
