I went to university in Victoria, so for 5 years I did the ferry thing multiple times a year. The first few times were exciting!
The next 4 years, I was poor, so doing the ferry thing meant taking the bus from campus downtown, then from downtown to the ferry terminal (1.5 hour trip by bus, 36 minutes by car) then walking on to the ferry ($6 at the time) whilst being crippled by the amount of crap we were lugging in backpacks.
Finding a reasonably comfortable place to lie down in large groups on the ferry and attempting to ignore the screeching children for the 90 minute crossing.
Trudging off the ferry and into the waiting arms of whichever sibling or parental unit was volunteered into driving the hour plus from Abbotsford to Tsawassen to pick us up.
The last year, I had a CAR and no longer cared about being poor - I treated the ferry ride like an extended stoplight where you turned your car off, pulled out the novel and read for 90 minutes, whilst inhaling diesel fumes.
Good times, good times...
