I've been over at Facebook because it's so easy to come up with a couple hundred characters worth of update. Plus people have been "finding" me. People from my past, including exes. Happy New Years eve everyone! This time last year I was at the sober house watching cable by myself in my robe. This year I'm at my parents' house watching cable by myself in my snuggie. The implications are staggering. Who knows where I'll be watching cable alone next year and what I'll be wearing? -

Today I’m 32. And exactly a year and 8 months sober. I will have to attach that little addendum to my personal timeline for the rest of my life. That’s okay. It’s cheesy but it’s also a substantial accomplishment so it’s okay. Without it I’d be a mess (and not a hot one) or deceased, so I might as well fully embrace it ( Read more... ) -

Today I took yet another lady to the doctor and then to get a prescription filled. She's becoming a regular client for me, but I'm not sure if she remembers that she's ever seen me specifically before each time I pick her up. I'm just a nice lady who shows up to help. The lady I went to take care of today keeps insisting that it's time for her to pack up and head home before her mother finds out she's snuck out of the house again. This woman is in her mid 90s and has Alzheimers. Suffice to say, her mother has been gone for a long time ( Read more... ) -

Tomorrow I start the new incarnation of my caregiving job. I start my job training by shadowing a caregiver who is taking care of a lady with pretty severe Alzheimer's. I'm told the client doesn't really know where or who she is. Her responses to life decisions are immediate and without contemplation. She gets frustrated and can't find words to ( Read more... ) -

There's a guy who's in the Marin fellowship (I never thought I would be able to bandy about the recovery lingo so effectively and painlessly as I do these days) who I've been semi-crushing on lo these 16 months. A few weeks ago I wrote a letter of amends to a woman I worked for right before I went into rehab. She fired me for smelling like alcohol on the job.
