exclusion in the workout world (Warning: exercise talk if that's triggering)

I'm reading this book right now by Julia Serano for book group called "Excluded: Making Feminist and Queer Movements More Inclusive." I find myself reacting strongly to it at points, which is usually a sign that there's good stuff there (even if it's hard), but this post isn't really about that, though I think I might write one later about it ( Read more... )

What you can do is be a visible fat or not thin person doing exercise and not propagating the weight loss trope. That's a wonderful gift.

Thanks, D. I do think visibility is important and while I don't pat myself on the back for it, I definitely have seen that little "click" that people get when see me working out and they're like "oh...fat person...exercising, ok!" So I'm committed to putting that out there. And reiterating to anyone who will listen that it's not about weight loss.

It just seems like there's got to be more in this area to do. A flash mob maybe? I love work that Ragen's doing especially, and I don't want to reinvent the wheel, but I'd love to add to it.
