Because I have seven pages left to write...

and realized that the Golden Globe noms are quite fascinating to consider because i've actually seen half of the movies/shows.

Best Motion Picture - Drama
"American Gangster"
"Atonement"
"Eastern Promises"
"The Great Debaters"
"Michael Clayton"
"No Country for Old Men"
"There Will Be Blood"

Of the ones i've seen, i loved Michael Clayton- it was basically the perfect Alex movie. Exciting, suspenseful, George Clooney movie with the satisfying clincher on the end. However, Eastern Promises was by far the most impressive. American Gangster was too long, too period and way too many shots of people shooting up. Didn't see "No Country..." but it's the Coen brothers so I definitely wouldn't be surprised if it takes it. And Atonement? You're kidding me, right? That preview is one of the worst I have ever, ever seen. Plus, clearly the girl is the main character so why doesn't she get billed on the preview? I don't care about either Keira Knightley or James McAvoy. :-P

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama
Cate Blanchett - "Elizabeth: The Golden Age"
Julie Christie - "Away From Her"
Jodie Foster - "The Brave One"
Angelina Jolie - "A Mighty Heart"
Keira Knightley - "Atonement"
I just hope Keira Knightley doesn't get it. I'd like to see Elizabeth, but i'd want to see the first one first.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama
George Clooney - "Michael Clayton"
Daniel Day-Lewis - "There Will Be Blood"
James McAvoy - "Atonement"
Viggo Mortensen - "Eastern Promises"
Denzel Washington - "American Gangster"
Yay George Clooney! But he didn't do anything ridiculous in this movie. Denzel Washington could get it, but he didn't do anything all that impressive either besides shoot a guy in the head in the middle of a crowd of people. I go with Viggo Mortenson, fighting naked and weaponless in a sauna is definitely worth a Golden Globe. :-)

Best Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy
"Across The Universe"
"Charlie Wilson's War"
"Hairspray"
"Juno"
"Sweeney Todd"

How the hell do you compare these?? They are just about as far reaches of the (in no way singular) genre "musical or comedy" as you get. I'd like to see Charlie Wilson's War, since I know nothing about it. The critics love Sweeney Todd. As I see it, either Juno, which I am so excited to see god damn why isnt it coming out til next Friday, or Sweeney. Hairspray is just the musical and they made some really odd choices for cinematography, although I grant you that it's fun and anyone who cannot get to Broadway got something out of the movie, and Across the Universe was... ok. Far too long. Visually stunning, plot could have used a LOT of cleanup. Definitely in love with Jim Sturgess. Couldn't have cared less about Evan Rachel Wood, so at least she wasn't nominated for anything.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy
Amy Adams - "Enchanted"
Nikki Blonsky - "Hairspray"
Helena Bonham Carter - "Sweeney Todd"
Marion Cotillard - "La Vie En Rose"
Ellen Page - "Juno"

No idea. Could be Nikki Blonsky because not every movie actress (and very few) can take on Tracy Turnblad. Haven't seen any of the others, but I'm guessing Ellen Page in Juno will make a run for it. She's only 20... damn. And Nikki Blonsky's barely 19.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy
Johnny Depp - "Sweeney Todd"
Ryan Gosling - "Lars and the Real Girl"
Tom Hanks - "Charlie Wilson's War"
Philip Seymour Hoffman - "The Savages"
John C. Reilly - "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story"

haven't seen any of them. Obviously lots of respect for all the actors, though.

Best Animated Feature Film
"Bee Movie"
"Ratatouille"
"The Simpsons Movie"

Ratatouille for sure!!!!

Best Foreign Languge Film
"4 Months, 3 Weeks And 2 Days" (Romania)
"The Diving Bell And The Butterfly" (France, United States)
"The Kite Runner" (United States)
"Lust, Caution" (Taiwan)
"Persepolis" (France)

Kite Runner's coming out! Ack! I don't know how I feel about that!

Best Performance By an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Cate Blanchett - "I'm Not There"
Julia Roberts - "Charlie Wilson's War"
Saoirse Ronan - "Atonement"
Amy Ryan - "Gone Baby Gone"
Tilda Swinton - "Michael Clayton"

no idea. Just looked up CWW... Tom Hanks yay, Julia Robers ack, but it looks so incredibly entertaining... another movie to see starting next Friday!

Best Performance By an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Casey Affleck - "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford"
Javier Bardem - "No Country for Old Men"
Philip Seymour Hoffman - "Charlie Wilson's War"
John Travolta - "Hairspray"
Tom Wilkinson - "Michael Clayton"

well shit. People say John Travolta deserves the Academy Award for it, but I hated the way they chose to do that part. I like Tom Wilkinson.

Best Director - Motion Picture
Tim Burton - "Sweeney Todd"
Ethan Coen & Joel Coen - "No Country for Old Men"
Julian Schnabel - "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly"
Ridley Scott - "American Gangster"
Joe Wright - "Atonement"

Uh oh. Bets on either Tim Burton or the Coen brothers. I mean, it's Tim Burton.

But also, it's the Coen brothers.

Best Screenplay - Motion Picture
Diablo Cody - "Juno"
Ethan Coen & Joel Coen - "No Country for Old Men"
Christopher Hampton - "Atonement"
Ronald Harwood - "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly"
Aaron Sorkin - "Charlie Wilson's War"

Mrr.

Best Original Score - Motion Picture
Michael Brook, Kaki King, Eddie Vedder - "Into the Wild"
Clint Eastwood - "Grace Is Gone"
Alberto Iglesias - "The Kite Runner"
Dario Marianelli - "Atonement"
Howard Shore - "Eastern Promises"

?

Best Original Song - Motion Picture
"Despedida" - "Love in the Time of Cholera"
Music by: Shakira, Antonio Pinto
Lyrics by: Shakira

"Grace Is Gone" - "Grace Is Gone"
Music by: Clint Eastwood
Lyrics by: Carole Bayer Sager

"Guaranteed" - "Into the Wild"
Music & Lyrics by: Eddie Vedder

"That's How You Know" - "Enchanted"
Music by: Alan Menken
Lyrics by: Stephen Schwartz

"Walk Hard" - "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story"
Music & Lyrics by: Marshall Crenshaw, John C. Reilly, Judd Apatow, Kasdan

Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz? That's amusing.

Best Television Series - Drama
"Big Love"
"Damages"
"Grey's Anatomy"
"House"
"Mad Men"
"The Tudors"

Back to the strong opinions. How the hell was The Tudors nominated? Worst TV show I have ever watched every episode of!!!!! That is ridiculous! Bad enough that they're planning another season! Big Love is fun. I'm not a fan of doctor shows, haven't heard of either Damages or Mad Men.

Best Performance By an Actress in a Television Series-Drama
Patricia Arquette - "Medium"
Glenn Close - "Damages"
Minnie Driver - "The Riches"
Edie Falco - "The Sopranos"
Sally Field - "Brothers & Sisters"
Holly Hunter - "Saving Grace"
Kyra Sedgwick - "The Closer"

Haven't seen 'em.

Best Performance By an Actor in a Television Series-Drama
Michael C. Hall - "Dexter"
Jon Hamm - "Mad Men"
Hugh Laurie - "House"
Jonathan Rhys Meyers - "The Tudors"
Bill Paxton - "Big Love"

What movie did I just see JRhysMeyers in? August Rush. Can I just say that he is SO much better with an irish accent. Like I actually liked him. Which is saying something after deciding he was one of the WORST actors I'd ever seen in the Tudors. So while I no longer have zero respect for him it would make me really sad to see him get the Golden Globe for Tudors and encourage the horrible acting he did.

Best Television Series - Comedy or Musical
"30 Rock"
"Californication"
"Entourage"
"Extras"
"Pushing Daisies"

Oh man this is hard. For me it's definitely between Entourage and Pushing Daisies. And I'm in love with Pushing Daisies. BUt what will the critics decide??? I kind of really hope they go for Pushing Daisies because we need that show to last... Entourage will continue regardless and already has tons of awards up its sleeve.

Best Performance By an Actress in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical
Christine Applegate - "Samantha Who?"
America Ferrera - "Ugly Betty"
Tina Fey - "30 Rock"
Anna Friel - "Pushing Daisies"
Mary-Louise Parker - "Weeds"

I don't consider Weeds a comedy... and this season wasn't fantastic. Anna Friel is good at her part although I'm not a huge fan of her as an actress. Don't know the others although I feel like America Ferrera is a safe bet.

Best Performance By an Actor in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical
Alec Baldwin - "30 Rock"
Steve Carell - "The Office"
David Duchovny - "Californication"
Ricky Gervais - "Extras"
Lee Pace - "Pushing Daisies"

Lee Pace! Steve Carell! Alec Baldwin! Shit! And people like David Duchovny as well (I personally could not get through the first episode of Californication, although I'm told there's less sex after the first two). I'll root for Lee Pace.

Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for TV
"Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee"
"The Company"
"Five Days"
"Longford"
"The State Within"

I know not.

Best Performance By an Actress in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for TV
Bryce Dallas Howard - "As You Like It"
Debra Messing - "The Starter Wife"
Queen Latifah - "Life Support"
Sissy Spacek - "Pictures of Hollis Woods"
Ruth Wilson - "Jane Eyre"

Ich weiss nicht.

Best Performance By an Actor in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for TV
Adam Beach - "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee"
Ernest Borgnine - "A Grandpa for Christmas"
Jim Broadbent - "Longford"
Jason Isaacs - "The State Within"
James Nesbitt - "Jekyll"

Rinse and Repeat.

Best Performance By an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for TV
Rose Byrne - "Damages"
Rachel Griffiths - "Brothers & Sisters"
Katherine Heigl - "Grey's Anatomy"
Samantha Morton - "Longford"
Anna Paquin - "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee"
Jaime Pressly - "My Name Is Earl"

Why is Jaime Pressly of all people the character from Earl who gets recognition? I don't understand that.

Best Performance By an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for TV
Ted Danson - "Damages"
Kevin Dillon - "Entourage"
Jeremy Piven - "Entourage"
Andy Serkis - "Longford"
William Shatner - "Boston Legal"
Donald Sutherland - "Dirty Sexy Money"

Well there's only one answer to this one and that is obviously Jeremy Piven. What I don't understand is how Kevin Dillon always gets nominated alongside him (happened for the Emmys as well). Kevin Dillon and Jeremy Piven are not even CLOSE to the same level of hilariousness. Dillon must have an amazing agent ;-).

Hurray for distractions. Time to call my mom and see if she'll get coffee/lunch with me.

P.S. Why did Mike and I discover the title of show blog during finals week??? Musical theatre trivia is WAY more fun than writing papers or studying!
