So this girl named Maggie Black contacts me out of the blue one day a couple of weeks ago and somehow it comes up that she went to college with this girl Shawna who went to the same high school as I did and hey Riana, do you know her? Why yes, says I. And then tonight I decide to see just who else lists that high school on their LJ besides me, and behold, there is Shawna.

In conclusion, hello.

*spazz attack* HI! Wow. Wow wow wow. Small world. :) How do you know Maggie Black? And how did I come up in conversation? I only know her vaguely through Vassar. How odd! I love weird coincidences like that. Are you in the Bay Area? I seem to remember some newsbit that you were working for Google...? Would be fun to catch up.

I'm a little tired. Just drove three hours back from vacation.

She found my profile on a personals site and thought I sounded cool, so she contacted me. I just got back from having tea with her, actually. I'm in Portland, Oregon, now - I moved up here from the Bay Area last fall. I moved home after finishing up at Whitman and finally got sick of living in the Bay Area, so here I am. Portland is lovely. Where are you these days?

Whee, three-hour drives! I get to do that tomorrow - going to Seattle for the weekend. At least I'm bringing a friend, so I'll have someone to talk to.

Going back through your old entries, I see you work near CNET, where I used to work. While it was cool being near Moscone (friends coming into town for conferences), BART/major bus lines, and good food and drink (21st Amendment! 111 Minna! Cha Am!), the commute DROVE. ME. INSANE. 3 hours every day: drive to Caltrain, Caltrain to King Street, walk to work. The walk put me over the edge. I HATED being surrounded by people, especially on ball game days where there were huge crowds between me and my train. And that is why I moved to Portland and now work from home. :) Even so, I do miss vanilla beer and tapas at Thirsty Bear. Yum.
