From a working holiday to the life we'd be living if we lived in Poland

This has been in part a working holiday for me. When Iza suggested going to Poland for 8 days rather than a long weekend, I said ok, but only if I can have unfettered access to a decent internet connection. This turned out to be entirely necessary. Despite having finished the main Thing I needed to deliver for my project, I ended the week with ( Read more... )

Working on holiday would drive me nuts but knowing you and that it hanging over your head would drive everyone nuts because you would not relax. Sounds like a reasonable compromise.
Good photos!

I'm completely with you on the desirability of being able to work while away (if and when needed). When I can't, I get really stressed out because I know how much there will be to deal with on my return and I feel suspended, powerless, in a very unpleasant way. Itching to get back home and to work, frankly. When I can do a little work on "holiday", fun times are had.

Otoh I cherish the memory of a surprise weekend in a very posh hotel during which I couldn't/didn't even *think* about work, email, any of that. Impossible to describe how very refreshing it was... but that was in very, very specific circumstances. And only a weekend.

Yay! A sister in good sense! Hooray for meaningful multitasking and cunning use of connectivity :)

Agreed that short total breaks can be lovely.

Mostly I prefer them to be by choice. I am perfectly capable of leaving my work phone behind, or deciding to reply to an email later, when that is what will make me happiest.

There is so much wank written about tech invading our lives. But unless we are neophytes (learn!) or neurotics (also: learn!), it just gives us more choice. If someone chooses badly, it's them who is the problem, not the enabling technology.
