It's horrible. I watched the video on youtube of what actually happened. You don't ride do you? It was basically a cross country course (solid fences that don't knock down) against the clock. Most cross country has a time limit, and if you go over you get points added, the idea is to end up with the least points. This one though they gallop around the course and it's just generally dangerous. The horse just lost concentration, thought he had to jump a straight across, when he just had to jump the corner, landed on it and broke his leg(s). Horrible. I really hope they think about banning these types of courses, it's too unsafe. :(

I do ride, but just Western, very casual.

That's awful, and 16 is too young for a horse to die. I agree, ban the hell out of them. It's not worth the horse dying. ):

I don't even generally do horses, but this was sad to watch. And then I read what happened and it's even sadder and that makes me sadder too. He was so beautiful! Really, Gorgeous horse...

:o(

Total obvious I don't do horses question: What is the average life expectancy of a horse?

I don't know really. It varies. I've seen horses as old as 35, but a horse at my old yard died recently at 17 and he looked really old, but he had naviscular disease. It says on the internet about 20 to 30 years lol, so yeah, a big range. Depends on breed, what discipline they did, etc.
