It answers to some of the kerfluffle anyway. Facebook went through some of the same privacy issues

Some. Some.

It's coming down to, can one rely on one's F-list?

one other problem ....

If the boxes are hidden, and that person has cross-post set as their default, they can't uncheck the boxes on your LJ .....

Reading the FAQ it looks like cross posting comments in other people's locked entries do not get sent by default.. but given all the glitches in the ping back system I'm more than a little wary...

The FAQ though really needs to be rewritten to clarify the difference between cross posting comments in own journal vs other journals vs locked journals of both flavours...

I *think* that's been tested. There are several users who've tried various permutations of "what happens when I do this" .... with ungood results.

And apparently neither code will work in the default view that lj has.

So it's assumes a custom view in the first place. Workaround just isn't solving all the privacy you may want. F- Lock for the win?/shrug/

Sounding more and more like we who remember the Cold War clearly used to imagine life in the Soviet Union: Big Brother is watching you and do you know whom among your friends you can trust?

I assume you have done this. and I just did, but as I sit here with a coment box open, see the cross post boxes?

I wonder why. This may be because I see them in the default lj setting rather than in your style? Or YOU see comments and entries in your default setting rather then your style? I wish I knew.

What I do know is I am not sure my content is interesting enough for someone to re post anyway. Not that it's any great comfort to me, sorta feels like walking around with your skirt hitched into your stockings...
