What a pretty collar. You did a really nice job on the dress and with the fitting. (wanna come over and help me? ;-)) Your rotary cutter is very cool too, where did you get it?
Thank you so much! The collar is on loan, it's a beautifully machine embroidered voile, and impeccably finished. She collects antiques off of ebay but never makes enough dresses to put them all on. I would like to make a similarly styled copy but that means buying voile.
I would love to dispense aid to all those in fitting need. I am in Western Washington Puget Sound area, you look like you may be from the region. ;-)
The rotary tool is from the thrift store, probably a Value Village. My husband and I regularly comb the wall full of bags, and this gem turned up with a bunch of quilting needles. Royal cutlery I think, and works just wonderfully. Slow though, and makes me want to invest in a rotary blade for pinking. But then again, maybe just buying enough fabric to make bias tape and avoid the whole mess could be nice....
What a great friend to have. You could definitely make a similar collar. I know that for American Civil War era they also wore crocheted collars which could be an alternate option for your CW dresses.
I am in the same region as you are! Are you in Seattle? I'm up north. Do you do anything with Somewhere In Time, Unlimited? If so, I may be acquainted with you.
What a lucky find, your rotary tool. My cousin an I also comb second hand shops for costuming items, we mostly search for shoes since granny boots have gone pretty much out of style (the few current versions are too high in the heels). I know that dilemma, pinking and fraying or lots of extra fabric for bias tape...;-D
