I can't be bothered to type out all my thoughts and things because I'm basically procrastinating, so here goes a (theoretically) quick post.

You're exactly right. My basic problem here is that anyone who wants the job of making the judgement should be instantly disqualified, kinda like that old saying about anyone who wants to be a ruler.

Currently it's left up to parliamentarians, which is frustrating because their decisions have to be influenced by re-election, often at the expense of what's right. But whoever makes those decisions would have to be accountable for their decision.

I have no solutions on an institutional level because it's so complicated it makes my head hurt. Which is why, basically, I think it has to be dealt with on a social level, but that only works for me when I have faith in humanity, which intermittently falls away when I read/see/hear something. Ah well.
