So this op-ed piece was in my daily e-delivery of the NYT:

Divided We Thrive, by Jonathan Rauch.

Rauch's contention is essentially that Americans like divided government, "when one party controls the White House and the other controls either or both chambers of Congress." He argues that the problem with unified government is this:

Rauch is, unsurprisingly, spouting nonsense. This is standard Village echo-chamber twaddle; for some reason, the media that covers Washington hasn't noticed what the Republican party has become.
