If he had been asked two years ago, Yumichika would have been confident in their victory. The side of good always triumphed over evil. That's how it always was, and how it should always be.
Yet... here they were.
Here they were and having Aizen rule wasn't as bad as everyone had expected. Which, rightfully so, actually made him nervous. What would happen now that they couldn't count on having them be the good guys and Aizen, along with his cronies, being the bad guys? The line had been blurred.
They were at a loss now. So many had fallen on the battleground. Even going into that war they were down captains that they had no time to replace. Now more than ever they needed strong leadership.
Over the past two years, all Yumichika could do was try to regain some semblance of order in his daily life. He went back to training, back to the unending mountains of paperwork and most of all back to himself. Perhaps not the best option to fall back to, but bringing the sense of familiarity seemed like a good idea. It wasn't like he pretended nothing had happened, but sitting around and dwelling on what did happen wasn't his style.
One thing he did do differently was he trained more. He had to. Not being able to use his shikai in front of anyone would eventually cause a problem. It almost did cause a problem. But he couldn't focus on that now. In order to move forward, he had to become stronger. In order to become stronger he had to come to an agreement with his zanpakuto. That was where the fly was in the ointment. Even after all this, all the loss and destruction, he could not bring himself to be honest. He'd be a laughing stock and that was simply not acceptable. Yumichika knew that somewhere down the line, he wouldn't be so lucky again and it just may cost him his life next time.
