Well, Matt's yacht transport service was back in action yesterday. We drove down to Keyport and picked up a Charles Hankins lifeboat from a boat builder that is friends with my friend Jack. Jack paid the hefty sum of one bottle of vodka. The boat is significant because Jack just recently bought the building in Lavallette where Mr. Hankins had ( Read more... )

How much of a project is it?

(not that I'll dissuade you, I'm contemplating a small, old, british sportscar with its engine in pieces for a price possibly as low as hauling it away...)

That's the scary thing. The Evelyn is pretty much ready to race. It comes which all brand new rigging to boot. The biggest expense would be sails, but I wouldn't buy new ones right away.

I've been learning some stuff about the boat. Apparently its quite a quick beast. Quotes... "they go upwind like a scared jackrabbit" and "Upwind they can make a wake like a power boat" and "Fun, Fast and they go like hell in a blow."

Gonna go back and check the bugger out this week.

Sounds like a fun project! :)

Speaking of the Parkway... I went down the shore last weekend to see my dad, and I noticed that they changed the speed limit to 55 mph between exits 80 and 100. No one was doing 55 though. :)

Wow, how much did he pay for that building? I can't believe the prices of stuff down there now. Even my dad's house is worth a small fortune! He's been in Lavallette for over 20 years already. I have always wanted to buy something there, but I do believe it's out of reach (unless I win the Mega Millions).

Yeah, I don't get the speed limit change either. I think they wanted to write some tickets to get more money out of us. Hey, you gotta let me know the next time your down here so we can grab a brew or lunch or both.

Actually I think he did quite well on the deal. He got the place for 750. He's going to renovate the place and live there in addition to have his shop there. Can you say roof top tiki bar!
