Heroes: Cold Wars

This week's shout out to Supernatural:  HRG finds new cases much like Sam and Dean find new cases; he checks the paper for weird stories.  Spontaneous house fires are similar to men who shoot themselves in the head three times.  In my head, even though Noah was let go before he could get to that one, the Winchesters still showed up and straightened the whole thing out.  And also, there was a motel.  Unfortunately, the motel's decor was not up to SPN standards.  Pretty dull.  I'm going to have to make a list of these things.

I am more convinced than ever that Matt Parkman is not actually dyslexic but instead mildly retarded.  Seriously.  How stupid can you be?  It's painful to watch him blunder around like an enraged circus elephant.  Who the hell elected him the leader of the All Boy Resistance anyway?  I thought it was going to be Peter, but he was more or less the errand boy this week.

List of Examples of Matt's Stupidity

1.  First you collect information, then you decide on a plan of action.  You do not get a tiny piece of info and decide the rest can wait while you go do something stupid  (or send someone else to do something stupid).  There's this little thing we like to call "planning"  that seems to have escaped you.

2.  If you're going to pick a fight with someone, don't choose the guy with super strength.

3.  You have two allies in the world; Mohinder and Peter.  It would probably be best to try to avoid alienating them and/or getting them killed.

4.  Be a little sensitive.  You're asking your old boyfriend to help you avenge your new girlfriend.  He is understandably a little tetchy.

5. How did you decide that HRG must be the person in charge, anyway?  Has he ever been?  I mean, you *have* seen Nathan running around, right?  And the man is a Senator.  You we all hunted down by military guys and then your plane was bombed.  All signs point to government involvement, yes?  So what makes you think that Noah could be the driving force?  But Matt still sounds surprised when he discovers that Noah is still middle management.

Speaking of which...what the hell was Mohinder doing while Matt was telling everyone his "HRG is EVIL" theory?  Apparently, Mohinder knew already that HRG had some interest in undermining Nathan's big plan, but he didn't say anything to Matt and Peter.  He could have told them that HRG didn't require drugs and duct tape...that he was perfectly willing to cooperate.  If they had decided to place their All Boy Resistance under HRG's direction, I bet everything would have gone a lot smoother.

Poor Noah, no one understands him except for me and Angela.  It's hard to be the smart one when you're surrounded by idiots who are constantly interfering with your work. I love seeing him be clever, though.  I love that he and Angela are actually plotting against everyone.  Did he give her a watch at the end there?  If so, I love that too.  (I didn't get a good look at it, but I thought it looked like he had given her a ladies watch, not just given his watch back.  I wonder what the significance of the watches could be.)

I need an icon of Noah's line about being comfortable with morally gray.  Anyone out there have photoshop skills?  I am singularly unartistic.  So far all of my Heroes icons are about people being stupid...as appropriate as they are, I should probably branch out.

Did The Resistance seriously decide to move into Isaac's old studio/Mohinder's old lab?  Do they really think that's a good hiding spot?  Yeah.  No one will ever think to look there.  It's just been a hot bed of mutant activity for the past three years.

And how long was Matt in his painting trance?  Long enough to paint the floor mural, then wait for it to dry so that it wouldn't smear when he walked on it, then to paint a bunch of canvasses before waking up.  I hope he's been painting with acrylics...if he used oils, that could have taken days.

Nice that we're going to almost blow up a new city this year.  I like to destroy New York as much as the next girl, but variety is fun too.  I'm not sure that the amount of explosives on painting!Matt are enough to cause an explosion the size of the one in the floor mural, but whatever.  I don't think it is at all out of character for Matt to go all suicide-bombing on us;  the man's clearly unhinged  -- and, as previously mentioned, more than a little dumb.  With the powers he has, he could do so much better than blowing himself up in front of the capitol.  It's freaking MIND CONTROL for crying out loud.  There is nothing he couldn't accomplish...if only he wasn't such an extreme idiot.  I'm pretty sure that comic book villains everywhere would give their right arm for the ability to control men's minds.

Good thing Hiro will show up to save Matt from himself.  It's a good fit.  He doesn't need powers to sit Matt down and gently explain to him that strapping dynamite to his chest is a stupid idea.

Mohinder is back in a familiar situation...despite being possibly the worst geneticist in the world, yet another organization is in need of his services.  First Primatech, then Pinehearst, now the government.  Every volume, Mohinder winds up doing science for the "bad guys."  Next year, I swear, Sylar will have him on retainer.  Then he'll be doing genetics work on Magneto's asteroid.  And the whole time he'll worry about the morality of his actions until he is totally incapable of making decisions by himself.  Even being asked "paper or plastic?" at the grocery store will send him into an hour long monologue on his existential dilemma.

What else happened tonight?  Oh yeah...we had Peter running around with a gun again.   ...Why?  We all know that he's not going to kill anyone.  Sylar and Arthur knew it last volume, the hunter and Nathan knew it tonight.  He must genuinely think that the purpose of a gun is just to point it at people.  I never know what he hopes to accomplish by waving his gun around.  Did he think he could talk the hunter into giving up his pursuit?  He just flew in with a gun and no plan at all.  It was disappointing...for a couple of episodes I really though that Peter had turned a corner.

The All Boy Resistance is practically begging for Sylar to show up and take charge, aren't they?  At least that guy can both make a plan and execute that plan.  Matt, Mohinder and Peter are just hopeless.

Daphne's alive (for now) though. Yay!  She can still leave Matt and run off with Hiro and Ando.  They can have awesome adventures.  Daphne's metabolism must be just as fast as the rest of her, hmm?  I assume that's why she needs way more sedatives.  Sounds familiar...maybe I come from a family of mutants.

Last week's promo promised to answer the question of whether Noah is a Hero or a Villain.  I don't think it did anything of the kind...he's just as morally gray as ever.  We still don't know what his and Angela's ultimate goal is.  Maybe it's just to preserve the status quo.  Whatever...I still consider him a hero.

I'm not sure where they're going with the hunter's character.  He's a workaholic?  Pretty boring.  He must have some personal investment in the whole mutant thing.  Does he also have a secret power?  Know someone who does?  Is he Sylar's missing daddy?  I don't like seeing anyone boss Noah around, though.  Respect the horned rimmed glasses!  So glad that Noah is plotting behind his back.

I was excited about this episode, but it was kind of dull.  Way too much of Matt's angst.  Hopefully, Sylar will bring back the funny next week..
