Hey, everyone, good news! Now Claire can have inappropriate chemistry with "Nathan" without it being incestuous! There will be mountains of fic, I'm sure. I'm pretty sure that Heroes should now be able to over-take any fandom in the porn category...shape-shifting Sylar is just a writer's dream. All pairings are now mainstream-justifiable.
I am no a big fan of the Chandra-retconning in this episode. Originally, he was a brilliant geneticist who deduced the existence of special people from raw genetic data. Now we find out that he actually met and ran tests on special people decades earlier. (Incidentally, I'm a little bit skeptical that geneticists could be so quick to find the mutants...Watson and Crick only published their DNA discovery in 1953. What next, Gregor Mendel tracked down Adam Monroe and started a selective breeding program like his pea plants?)
I *did* like the hints of Charles/Angela. Cute. Finally got to see what Charles's power was. Kid who was being Linderman did ok with the accent, but kind of sucked at acting and smiled too much. Creeped me out. Ineresting that Arthur wasn't an original member of the little group...I wonder where he came from. That other kid was Bob, right? Boring even then. But at least it explains how he fantastic four were able to take care of themselves afer running away like that. (The implication was that their parents were present at the camp and probably died, right?)
I wasn't sure I'd be able to find a Supernatural tie in tonight, but my sister informs me that the acress who played Young Angela was in "Family Remains". Interrestingly, that episode involved a pair of feral children murdering people...kind of like Alice. Then, at the very end of he episode, Peter made the declaration that they're stromger as a family! Awww, that's, like, Winchester 101! Great, next episode Angela's going to be ambushed by demons and returned to her family possessed.
I loved that they gave Angela a reason for sock-pilfering. Awesome. Even if this wasn't actually planned and they jus pulled it out of their asses, I love it. Molly, if I ever leave you to die sock-less in the desert, I promise that I will shoplift occasionally.
Alice was creepy. I did not like her. When Angela said, "I'll never see her again," all I could think was, "God, I hope you're right!" I know Alice went though something very traumatic, but to stay in that place for 50 years just because Angela told her to? Not great critical thinking skills. Angela also said she'd come right back, but she obviously didn't.
What else, what else? This was such a filler episode.
Ummmm....Oh, yes! I wanted to mention the journeys of self-discovery! Claire monologues about what an idiot she was. Hooray!!! I did a little happy-dance for her. The first step is accepting you have a problem, honey. And then, as if Claire's wasn't enough, Mohinder explains that he's weak and easily corrupted! I'm so proud of those two! My babies are growing up! *sniff*
...Maybe later Mohinder can learn that angsting about his father's sins is not terribly helpful. But who am I to criticize? I love Supernatural and the accompanying Daddy Issues. (I just think the Winchesters do it better.)
And at the end we see that Sylar is impersonating Nathan. Futures are funny, the more they change, the more they stay the same, I guess. In season 1 we saw Sylar-as-Nathan become President...in season 2 most of the world was dead...first half of this season, Sylar was a pancake-making daddy...and now he's back to impersonating Nathan. Is this coincidence, or a plan? God, I hope it's a plan. We really need one.
So...yeah...this is a very short review, but I'm stumped. Not much happened. I think this was more or less a transitional episode in a transitional half-season. I justt hope my patience pays off.
(I appologize if there are lots of typos up there. For some reason my T key is only working sporadically and it's driving me crazy.)
