Heroes: Trust and Blood

In a comment to last week's review, animegoddess103 suggested that Peter could only have one power at a time now, and I totally didn't believe her.  Oops.  I'm not sure how I feel about this development, I mean, sure, it prevents Peter from becoming so ridiculously powerful that he breaks the plot, but on the other hand it is totally unprecedented and reeks of retcon.  Also, I think there's enormous potential for the writers to forget what power he has at any given time.  As far as I can tell, he doesn't get to consciously choose which power to absorb - he just has to touch the person.  (As evidence for this theory, I cite taking Tracy's power and freezing the plane.  I seriously doubt he intended to do that.)  So, if Milo unthinkingly touches someone's hand, and the director doesn't notice, all future continuity will be blown to hell.  Also, a dramatically de-powered Peter is no longer a viable foil for Sylar.

...Other than that, I like how Peter is going.  His character, I mean.  He's all badass and focused.  He's even trying to *plan ahead* for once, bless his little heart.  I was momentarily thrown when he burst forth from the underbrush and started shrieking about Nathan calling him irrational (typically not a good way to convince people of your sanity) but I think it was actually part of a clever plan to get close enough to Nathan to steal his flying ability and escape.

Does anyone else wonder how Peter discovered the change in his powers?  Maybe he gave Claire a hug when she came to visit, then decided to fly home, jumped off the fire escape and landed on his head.  You *know* he couldn't have gone two months without touching someone...some family member.  He's a Petrelli!

Speaking of which, I'm not even much of a slash fan, but the writers are making it impossible to ignore.  "You don't have anything I want."  "I have Peter."  And then the look on Nathan's face that clearly said, "Oh, Peter! I want him badly!"  And Sylar has a new boyfriend in the ancient Greek fashion...part protege, part boy toy.  And they go and get rid of all female characters so Peter, Matt, Mohinder, Ando, and Hiro can lead the all-boy resistance.

I don't much mind that they sidelined Tracy, but did they actually kill Daphne?  I am so pissed.  Daphne had (has? please?) such potential with Hiro and Ando.  Just because she wasn't working with boring Matt does not mean that she should be killed.  (People constantly complain about Supernatural being a misogynist show, which I don't believe at all, but Heroes had better watch itself.)

One thing that hasn't thrilled me this year is Mohinder's complete lack of ethics.  This is the guy who has opened tons of episodes with monologues about morality and ethical dilemmas, but all of a sudden he's a fervent believer in black and white egoism?  Do what's in your own best interest, don't interfere on behalf of others.  Bah.  No one puts baby Hiro in a corner.

Matt really has to have a talk with Mr. African Issac about what it means to be a prophet.  You see, when you only start prophesying about something five minutes before it happens, you're not going to be very successful.  Isaac painted things months before they happened.  Matt kind of sucks as a prophet.

Any ideas about who was texting Claire at the end of the episode?  My first thought was Peter, but he had just said something about not using cell phones anymore because they can be traced.  So, he really shouldn't be using one to text Claire cryptic messages.  Also, he has always tried to keep her out of harm's way, so I doubt he'd be inviting her to join the all boy resistance.

It would be awesome if it was Sylar texting her, but I think he's otherwise occupied with his new boyfriend and finding his dad.  Doesn't seem too interested in fighting the government yet - except to the extent that they get in his way.

Why did Angela decide to turn on Nathan?  If she was just mad at him because he dropped her for the President, shouldn't she have been angry last episode?  Instead, if I recall correctly, she seemed pretty friendly when she was trying to distract Claire and offer Peter up to be captured.

I like HRG in his military duds.  is his hair a little more crew-cut too?  I wonder how Nathan got him inserted into a bunch of army-types.  He's always seemed more FBI than G.I. Joe.  We can't be sure where his loyalties lie - again.  I love that about him.  He's in favor of rounding up mutants, but he's not a fan of Nathan's...not above threatening him.  So the question is,  why is he there?  Should be interesting.

A few more comments about Sylar:  Creepy and funny as usual, which I love, but a little too much psychoanalyzing with his new boyfriend and mom.  Felt like we were being beaten over the head with "Look! The kid's *just like* little Gabriel!  They will be bestest friends!"   I don't have high expectations for boyfriend's survival chances, and I hope he doesn't live long enough to become too annoying.

Can we drop it already with the "a bullet to the sweet spot will kill them" thing?  I mean, what healer hasn't suffered a serious head injury yet?  Claire had her tree branch, Peter had his glass shard, and Sylar was actually shot in the head.  Yet, they're all still here.  Hmmm...maybe that sure kill nonsense you're spouting has a flaw.

Idiot of the week?  Hmmm...no one was terribly stupid, but I'll go with Matt.  Why did he wait so long to use his mind control powers?  (Why did Daphne have to die before he got smart? Waaaah!)  Remember when they were standing against the cliff with the soldier walking over them?  Wouldn't that have been a good time to use some mojo?  ***Put down your weapon and go to sleep!***  Even later, instead of trying to sneak around the campsite, just use the old mind control on some of the guards.  Matt is another one they made too powerful, so they have to compensate by making him too stupid to remember his power ninety percent of the time.

Not exactly a thrilling episode, but I'm still enjoying the direction we're headed and looking forward to next week.
