Help pls

So I've decided that I'm going to the girl genius ball. I have no idea what to wear. Please help, I was planning on wearing my corset but need something more to make it look steampunk. Any and all help will be appreciated. (there might even be cookies in the bargain too)

the other thing to do - start with a character and decide what that person would want to have on her person to do what she does.

One idea I saw at a party this weekend...

These clipped between a corset bottom and just above the ruffle on a petticoat to hold the petticoat and skirt out of the way for dancing. Put that with a fitted coat and skirt in practical fabrics... add a scarf and shoulder-bag and you are well on your way to adventure.
