...days I've had in a long time

Lord love a duck. Today was Fredrik’s birthday so I picked up Naila and we headed to campus (STARRS, anyone? Yeah, right) for Ariella, Rolaine, Hadiya and Giselle. Kayaking, they said brightly. We’re off to Chaguaramas to rent a couple of kayaks.

Oo-kay.

So we headed over to the guys’ apartment, where we plied an extremely hungover Fredrik with excessively iced birthday cake and champagne. After a frantic hunt for his car keys (during which he forgot to grab the bottle of rum from the bedside table - big mistake no. 1), we were off, and pretty soon forced into another frantic hunt, this time for some other form of alcohol.

Crews Inn - big mistake no. 2. We all sat at the bar where Naila, Giselle and I plunked down $30 for a piña colada and Heineken. Apparently that was an insult to this fine establishment. We were irritably informed that twenty-five additional smackeroos would be needed to cover the cost of our drinks. At this point, I choked on my first sip and had to cover it up by faking an extremely loud, extremely unconvincing coughing attack. I guess we really should have made the white boys buy the drinks.

So it was unanimously agreed upon that we would not even consult the menu. We’d have to find another eatery more suited to our budget. Where did we go? Where every Trinbagonian heads whenever cheap, disgustingly unhealthy food is required prontissimo: KFC. This time, we made sure we didn’t repeat our mistake of leaving the guys alone with a 21-piece bucket of chicken; we grabbed our half and tossed it into the car.

Now, at that point, it was quite obvious that we weren’t going to have enough money to rent a piece of bloody driftwood. We drove to Macqueripe, which is a slightly out-of-the-way beach and there I discovered big mistake no. 3: refusal to don a bathing suit meant that I wouldn’t be able enjoy the feeling of extremely cool water under extremely hot sun. Naila and I did, however, manage to create a masterpiece of a sculpture in the sand: a reconstruction of Mt. Doom, Minas Tirith and the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, complete with Ents, Orcs and heroes.

(Yes, I know there were no Ents at that battle, but we found these amazing twig looky-likeys and we really wanted to put them in.)

All in all, an extremely nifty day, the only soggy spot being the lack of luthienlupin. Thank you, Fredrik, for being an old mamoo; thank you, Antonia and Gudmund, for not pissing everyone off today; thank you, Crews Inn, for providing me with the most horrible piña colada in the history of horrible piña coladas; and thank you, Ariella, Giselle and Steinar, for using me as a towel to dry off your sandy, salty and extremely sticky arses.

Goddamn you, Campus Pipeline, for disabling my account.

Bless you, Naila, for granting me access to yours.
