'I love taking evening shifts,' I thought to myself as I ran my fingers through my hair which had just been messed up by the wind. I gave my head a little shake and fanned myself repeatedly. It was surprisingly hot for a spring day and I did not like it when the weather gets hot. Not one bit.
"Curse you." I muttered under my breath as I took larger steps, wanting to get to the diner as soon as possible. As I turned right around the bend, I thanked my lucky stars when I saw the building not fifty steps away.
... Fifty steps is quite a lot, isn't it.
I increased my walking speed and sighed to myself, content, when I pushed the glass doors open, enjoying the cool blast of the air-conditioner. "Thank God for aircons."
"Afternoon, Jaejoong." Dongwook greeted me and smiled, "You're on time today, I see."
I glowered at him, "What are you implying?"
"Nothing," he wheedled and reached into his pocket for a little while and pulled out a sheet of paper, "By the way, someone stopped by earlier and asked me to pass this to you."
I raised an eyebrow and took the dog-eared, yellow piece of paper from him before reading it.
I am reserving you for dinner tomorrow so don't you dare pretend to not know anything when I show up at your door tomorrow. I got permission from Yunho already so you can't weasel your way out of this one.
I chuckled. Changmin could be so predictable at times but that was one of the many very few things I loved about him. I pocketed the slip of paper and Dongwook eyed me from the corner of my eye, "Jaejoong?"
"Hmm?" I responded as I walked towards the kitchen to grab my apron, "Where's Junsu?"
I poked my head into the ajar kitchen door, "Did he go missing?"
"He went to visit his parents, it's Wednesday today."
"Oh..." I nodded understandingly. (If you had read IBHY closely enough, you would know that Junsu's parents are dead and he goes to visit them once a week on Wedneday evenings.)
"So it's just the two of us today," Dongwook mused, "Have you ever wondered why he doesn't hire more staff? He only has the two of us and five other part-timers right?"
"Good question but then again, I'm not good with mixing around with many people so I'm glad he didn't." I tightened my apron and took the mop which was leaning against the wall, "What were you going to ask me just now?"
"Huh? O-oh err, well..." He trailed off and fiddled with the edge of his apron. I frowned before I raised an eyebrow and waited for a continuation.
"I wanted to ask you something."
"Yeap, what is it?" Wringing the mop, I gave him a brief glance before I started mopping the marbled floor.
"Are you single?"
I stopped mopping and turned around, giving him the look.
I'm sorry, I just had to do it.
"No, I'm not. I mean hello, look at me, how can a guy like me remain single at this age?" I laughed my comment off and continued mopping the floor, "Aish this stain is annoying."
"You have a girlfriend?"
This poor boy is so, so sad I just want to hug him but then again, he wouldn't know that I am gay until I tell him, right? Right! See, I'm so smart.
I laughed again and pushed the pail of soap water and the mop to the side, "No, I have no interest in girls. They're loud, clinging, annoying and vain."
Wait... I'm loud, clinging, annoying and vain... Oh well, Yunho still loves me so it's okay (^O^)
"So... you're gay?" Dongwook started off slowly and I rolled my eyes, predicting what would come next.
"Yes, yes, I am and I know you're probably gonna say it's disgusting and what not. If you are, save your breath because I've heard it ten thousand times already." I waved my hand in the air and shook my head, "I'm used to it already."
He widened his eyes and shook his head frantically which caused me to let out a slight chuckle, "No, I mean, I don't care about these kind of things. Everyone's equal to me. I'd probably treat you the same if you came up to me one day and told me that you were secretly a dolphin."
I raised an eyebrow, "Junsu's the dolphin."
I smiled inwardly. It wasn't everyday that you came across such an understanding person. I reached up and patted him on the shoulder, "You're a good man, Dongwook-ah, thank you."
As I walked away, I heard him mumble something under his breath and I stopped in my tracks before I turned around, "What did you say, sorry?"
"What? Nothing!" He responded quickly, "I'll go arrange the chairs outside, the diner's supposed to open soon."
"How was the crowd today? Were the office ladies all over you again during lunch?" I asked as he pushed the door open and placed a chair against it to keep it open.
Sighing, he rubbed his temples dramatically, "It's horrible, I swear, horrible."
I laughed and pushed the other side of the door open, "You poor man."
I gave the tables a quick wipe, "Did you know that Junsu used to give all employees their Wednesday evenings off? Then he decided that no, he was being too nice so he decided to make us come back and work."
"Complaining, are we?" Dongwook joked and grabbed the box of utensils from shelves by the wall, "We'd better hurry, the place is supposed to open in less tan five minutes and there're a bunch of people opposite already waiting."
He pointed to a group of people across the street and I recognised them as the group of university students who came to eat at the diner at least three times a week, "Ahh, them, they're regulars. I can memorise their orders off the top of my head."
"So I can slack at the back?"
My eyes narrowed into slits, "I will kill you, you freeloader."
He laughed, "Arasseo, arasseo,"
Brrzt brrzt. My phone vibrated from inside my pocket and fumbled inside of it and fished it out, smiling when I saw that ever-so-familiar number on the screen.

My fingers flew across the keypad as I typed in a reply.

I was about to put my phone back into my pocket but it vibrated again.

I'll probably be back earlier than you so it's okay. Anyway even if I get hungry, I can just eat you.
I blushed heavily and turned away, avoiding the weird stares I got from Dongwook.

You are so disgusting! GTG!
PS: I love you too >///<
I kissed the screen and quickly placed the phone back into my pocket. Dongwook gave me a side glance, "Your boyfriend?"
I smiled in return and nodded, failing to notice the disappointed look on his face as I turned around.
-
I smiled and kissed the screen, "Love you boo."
Yoochun slipped into the staff room and walked towards me, smacking me on the shoulder, hard, "Wassup bro!"
I hissed in pain and raised my elbow, delivering a hard blow into his non-existent balls and he doubled over in pain, his face scrunching up, "Y-You bastard..."
Shrugging my shoulders, I swirled the chair around and looked at him, "What do you want, you grease ball?"
Without responding, he reached over my shoulder, grabbed my phone and started scrolling through my messages, "Still as lovey dovey, huh?"
I snarled and snatched the phone back, hugging it protectively, "Of course. Unlike you, I know how to keep my relationships going."
"Hmm." Yoochun raised an eyebrow, skeptically, "How's the baby?"
My lips stretched into a wide grin at the thought of the baby. It's actually really hard to imagine myself becoming a father and calling the baby 'my child'. I've only been living for myself until Jaejoong came into my life and now I need to take care of not one, but two lives? It just felt so surreal yet so magical at the same time.
"So far so good, Jaejoong's morning sickness isn't so bad anymore." I grabbed a pile of unmarked papers and placed them neatly into my bag, "He's becoming a teeny weeny bit whiny though."
"Isn't that just your way of saying that he's becoming really spoilt?" Yoochun smirked and grabbed my water bottle and emptying its contents into his mouth despite my silent protest of opening of mouth and staring at him.
I sighed and took the emptied bottle from him, "Spoilt or not, I love him all the same. If Changmin became a-"
"Changminsshi." He looked at me sharply as he corrected me, "Only I can call him Changmin because I'm special."
He did a little hair flick and I gave him the look, "Stop making yourself seem important. You're just lying to yourself."
"You know I'm awesomer than you, stop being such a sore loser." He sneered and pulled a chair over and sat on it, "Small dick."
My eyes widened at his comment slash insult, "How dare you call my penis small, do you have any idea how big it is? What the hell is wrong with you?"
"In what way is your penis big? Mine's way bigger."
I glared at him, "Delusional."
"Pervert."
"Conceited."
"Irritating."
"Jackass."
"Motherfucker."
"Cocky."
"Is that supposed to be a pun since we're talking about penises? Cause that was kinda punny." Yoochun snorted at his own stupid joke and I face palmed myself, massaging my temples as I tried to rack my brains for reasons why I was still acquainted with this imbecile.
"Do yourself a favour and just shut up, please. Better still, stop breathing. That would rid us all of your existence and give us all more oxygen to survive." I pushed him which resulted in him sailing halfway across the room. Good, stay there, stay as far away as you can from me.
NO WHY ARE YOU COMING OVER HERE, GO AWAY, GO AWAY, GO AWAY.
"I hate you, you know that?" He mumbled and pouted.
"Please stop pouting, the only person who looks good when he does that is Jaejoong." I nodded slowly and stood up, "Stop being a drama-mama and let's go. We're supposed to have a meeting, remember?"
"I don't wanna because you don't love me anymore."
Everyone, please note that he's in his thirties.
Sighing, I grabbed his wrist, "I love you, let's go?"
Someone please, please, please explain to me just why I'm stuck with a moron for a best friend.
-
"Jaejoong, are you feeling okay? You don't look too good." Dongwook said, concerned as he looked at my pale face. I smiled and shook my head.
"I'm fine. My stomach's just acting up a little."
Agi-yah, I'm sorry, umma will feed you something the moment I get home, okay? I rubbed my tummy gently and took the cloth from him, you go help me turn off the lights in the kitchen? I'll finish up over here."
He nodded and walked off, giving me one last concerned glance.
I hurriedly cleaned the last table and sat down on the chair, exhausted. It wasn't easy working for four hours straight, okay!
Wiping my forehead with the back of my arm, I pulled a ham and cheese sandwich out from my pocket and took a large bite, feeling utterly satisfied at the feeling of food going into my stomach.
As I opened my mouth to take another bite, the glass doors opened and a man stepped through the entrance. I looked up, "I'm sorry but we're closed- Yunho?"
The said man smiled and walked towards me, arms wide open and I stood up before I ran towards him, giving him a big hug, "What are you doing here?"
"Picking my boo up, what did you think I was doing?" He bent down and kissed me gently, "Are you okay? Is work too tough for you? You look rather pale."
He frowned and palmed my cheek. I shifted my hand up to cover his and held it lovingly, "I'm fine. Have you eaten?"
"Shouldn't I be asking you that question?" He held up a container, "I bought it for you, your favourite, to make up for that time I forgot to buy it back for you."
I laughed and tip-toed to press a kiss against his cheek, "You're forgiven then."
"Shall we go?"
"Okay, hold on, I just need to tell Dongwook that I'm going." I turned to go but Yunho grabbed my wrist and I turned around to look at him weirdly, "Yunho?"
"Do you have to?"
I raised an eyebrow, "Yunho-ah, it's common courtesy to inform someone that you're leaving and not just disappear like that, you know?"
(U-KNOW YUNHO hahahahahaha. I'm sorry, I'm being really lame right now.)
He hesitated but loosened his grip around my wrist but failed (refused) to let go completely. I frowned at his strange behaviour and figured that something was wrong so I didn't move and instead, called out to him from where I was, "Dongwook-ah!"
There were quick, little patterings before his head poked out from behind the counter, "Yeah?"
"I'm going now, you'll be fine with locking up, right?"
His eyes seemed to be transfixed on something else but he quickly looked up and at me, "Huh? Oh yeah, see you!"
"Bye, see you tomorrow!" I turned to grab Yunho's arm and looked up at him, "Let's go?"
"Mmm." He mumbled absentmindedly and there was this awkward tension in the air before I literally dragged him out of the place.
Men are weird.
