I've once or twice might have had an MSG reaction--as a migraine trigger. So I looked into it. That crap is everywhere. If you have developed an allergy, check you pantry for the stuff!
Well, hilariously, it was MSG in the MSG. It's a bad idea to grab the bottle of aji-no-moto when you can't find the salt shaker... for sodium-free soup. Considering I haven't had this issue during all my years of eating misoshiri with konbu strips, or munching down cheap Chinese food, I suspect it was the quantity that knocked me the hell over, but I'm going to be much more careful from now on. It wasn't a migraine, it was more like a combination of a niacin overdose and a kick in the chest from a very annoyed horse.
Well, it was over a great deal of aji-no-moto I dumped into some terribly bland soup on account of being unable to find the salt. Bad idea.
Um... incredible, sudden burning down the sternum, upset stomach, dizziness, flushing in the hands and face, sort of a feeling like hot flashes going up the back of my neck. Took an allergy pill immediately, had another ten minutes to calm down, threw the damned bottle out. It's never happened before, so I can cross my fingers and hope it was just massive overload. (Either that, or the soup itself sucked, but nobody else in my family had problems with it.)
