There is something fundamentally wrong with listening to the Grateful Dead without sunlight -or blacklight- shining on your face.

I'm rather fond of blacklights, I have two in our den. Direct sunlight doesn't agree with me however due to a variety of reasons ranging from medication that makes me hyper sensitive to sunburns and an eye condition that makes my irises dilate at the right speed. Boiled down, basically direct sunlight makes my, eyes and head ache, my skin prickle and burn and generally makes me feel queasy. I prefer a cool dark environment, hence the blacklights.

One medication which causes iris dilation issues really surprised me: The Pill. When I was in college I was doing laser research and women on the pill had to get their goggles one protection category higher than other folks because the pill keeps your eyes slightly dilated all the time. Talk about broadcasting your form of contraception on your face...

Blacklights also add a certain ambience when playing a drow campaign. And I have a neon bouncy ball that's perfect for blacklight conditions :)
