I watched as you set up the room for band practice. I watched as you unveiled your shining guitar from its case and set it on the stand. I even watched as I copied your actions with my bass. All the time, I was watching you.
I watched as you chatted with the tech crew. I watched as you tossed your head to the side, trying to dispel the dark lock of hair that kept falling into your eyes. I noticed the subtle smile grace your features as you hummed a tune to yourself. Sometimes I wonder if I watch too much.
I heard you talking to a member of the tech crew. I love to hear the soothingly deep melody of your voice. You were talking about your girlfriend. Oh how I loathe that painful subject, constantly reminding me of the fact that you aren’t mine and probably never would be. And there is nothing I can do about it. I can whine and complain and pout and beg. You are a mirage, ever visible, never obtainable.
I know all this in my heart, and don’t pretend that it could be otherwise. But as long as I am able, I will sit here and watch you.
