Ness' boyfriend. Joshua was one of the first people Ness ever spoke to, and unlike most people, Ness didn't immediately write Joshua off as a jackass. (He does think of Joshua as a jerk, but a special kind of jerk that can only be described as a Joshua-jerk.) The two of them have an odd relationship that seems to work due to the fact that they're either extremely different at times and extremely similar at others. Joshua has helped teach Ness to be more selfish while Ness has influenced Joshua to be slightly less irritating. When things between them are good, they're good. When they're bad...well, let's just say it's bad.

One of the people Ness has known the longest, the two of them seem to view each other in a older sister/younger brother fashion. While Ness appreciates the fact that Rikku is always looking out for him, he sometimes feels a little smothered by her protection. However, this doesn't dampen the affection he has for her one bit.

Best described as Ness' kindred spirit, Ness and Paula practically became instant friends when they first met. The two of them share the power of PSI, although Paula's is more tailored for offense rather than Ness' defense. However, the two of them share life philosophies and are good friends. Ness doesn't seem to mind the fact that Paula was stalking searching for him despite having never met before.

If Rikku is the surrogate big sister, then Ichigo is the surrogate big brother. Ichigo has helped Ness many times, such as helping him learn how to fight better, and Ness feels like he has a debt to repay to Ichigo. While their situations are not exactly the same, Ness understands Ichigo's problems with his Hollow and wishes he could do more to help him.

Ness' actual related-by-blood older brother. As a child, Ness looked up to and adored Red, but was always worried that Red was unhappy. When Red found his calling in monster training, Ness was happy, and when Red was to compete in a championship, Ness couldn't be happier. However, when Red never came back home and disappeared for three years, Ness felt abandoned. Red suddenly reappearing in his life was a shock, and Ness can't help but feel hurt. He wants to forgive his brother, but he can't yet forgive Red as Red doesn't seem to realize he did something wrong.
However, Ness is on good terms with Red's Pikachu, Pika.

One of Ness' next door neighbors, Green is the rival of Red. By proxy, Ness is occasionally a target of Green's ire for Red. However, Ness doesn't dislike Green, although his patience is definitely tested by Green's attitude. The two of them have somewhat bonded over mutual frustration over Red and his lack of intelligence for anything that doesn't involve monster training or fighting.
Ness has a friendlier relationship with Green's Eevee.

A long time crew mate, Milk (or Kurumi, or Milky Rose, depending on her form and outfit) is somewhat mean towards Ness, and he tries to avoid her as much as possible. Milk and Ness often have conflicting viewpoints on subjects, both equally valid. While he doesn't hate her, he does hold a mild dislike for Milk and figures it would be best for both of them if they didn't get in each other's way.

Iroh is Ness' uncle from his mother's side. It's thanks to Iroh that Ness knows how to play Pai Sho and knows quite a bit about tea. Their relationship is completely amicable and Ness hopes that Iroh can knock some sense into Red. Upon meeting him in the town of Balisier during the Hanami Cloud Festival, Ness was surprised to learn that his uncle knew Joshua. As of right now, Ness is completely unaware of Iroh's involvement in the Order of the White Lotus.

Ness first met Ichigo's father on the Winding Way, shortly after Ichigo and Watanuki were attacked during the Gearship Motors plane races. While he thought that Isshin was...eccentric and had odd parenting practices, he liked the man and respected him as a doctor. Some time later, Ness later learned that Isshin knew Joshua and seemed to have adopted Joshua as an honorary son. Which made Ness an honorary son-in-law, he supposed. Unfortunately for them, Isshin has this habit of showing up at the perfectly wrong time and making life difficult for both of them. Despite this, Ness still likes Isshin. Somehow.

Ness and Mr. H first met during the two month game hiatus, when Ness and Joshua returned to their hometown in Melior. It was one of the first times Ness got to meet someone from Joshua's life, and found him to be a little bit like Joshua in some ways, which would explain why the two of them were friends. However, Mr. H is also Isshin Kurosaki's brother, and Ness also sees him as a less enthusiastic, but just as trying Isshin. Only with the conscious intent to embarrass him.
