Appearance: To start it off, Neji has rather long hair (which reaches to the middle of his back) and is small for a male. His bangs rest near his shoulders and frame his face, making it look even more soft than it is. It's also so dark brown that it almost looks black (think coffee). He's only 5'6" in height and weighs about a hundred and ten pounds, but this is one short person you don't want to mess with.
He's rather pale skinned and `gentle` looking, though his eyes are probably the most striking thing about him. They're odd in color, usually a very pale lavender, though they have been known to change colors from almost completely white to storm-cloud gray. As thin as he may seem, Neji is still slightly toned with muscle in his arms and legs, though he's obviously rather skinny in the waist and all.
He's taken to wearing his hair down lately around his hitai-ate, though some people may see it when it's up in a high or low ponytail, depending on what he feels like doing with it. He's usually wearing a white, kimono style top, matching pants with a black skirt-type thing around his waist, ninja sandals and a bag over his shoulder.
On his forehead is the Main Family's Juinjutsu which is what he keeps hidden with his hitai-ate and other headbands. The only other noticeable markings he has are a scar on his left shoulder and another scar on his right hip, both from his fight with Kidomaru.
Abilities: Well, obviously, he has the Byakugan, just like every other Hyuuga. The Byakugan is a kekkei genkai that gives the user three hundred and sixty degrees of vision, except for the one, minuscule blind spot at the back of the neck and Neji has been able to stretch his sight to eight hundred meters.
With the Jyuuken (Gentle Fist), he has mastered it to the point where he can damage an opponent's chakra system and inner organs directly with even the smallest tap. He's also demonstrated the ability to incapacitate a person with a mere tap to the forehead of a person. Neji also uses this technique to attack his opponent's heart directly and send them into cardiac arrest, resulting in the death of the opponent with but a single strike. He can eject chakra from any point in his body to either slow down objects or release himself from chakra-based substances that will get him out of trapped situations. This also allows him to sense anything that enters his immediate area, which he can attack or defend against with his extremely fast reflexes.
Some of his known attacks are: Hakke Kusho (Empty Palm), Hakke Hasangeki (Mountain Crusher), Hakke Rokujuyon Sho (Sixty-Four Palms), Hakkesho Kaiten (Heavenly Spin).
Kusho (Empty Palm): This jutsu is similar in practice to Hakkesho Kaiten, but has a specific target rather than an area. To perform it, The user takes aim at the enemy's vitals and releases a high-speed palm thrust. A "vacuum shell" compressed using the Gentle Fist is formed to violently push the opponent away. It is shot at the enemy's vitals which is pinpointed precisely with the help of the Byakugan with tremendous pressure.
Hakke Hasangeki (Mountain Crusher): A more powerful variation of Hakke Kusho; this jutsu sends a wave of chakra directly towards an opponent, more than enough to shatter rock.
Hakke Rokujuyon Sho (Sixty-Four Palms): This technique is a maneuver of the Jyuuken fighting style. This technique is used to close off the flow of chakra through sixty-four chakra points of an opponent's chakra system. This eliminates their ability to use chakra for quite some time and makes it difficult for them to move.
Once someone is within range of Neji's field of divination, he assumes a Jyuuken stance and begins to deliver the attack of two consecutive strikes then another two to make four then four strikes to make eight then eight strikes to make sixteen then sixteen strikes to make thirty two and another thirty two strikes in succession to make a total of sixty four strikes. Each set of strikes is done at an exponentially increasing pace and strength. The attack not only disables the enemy but also knocks them back with every set of strikes. It is strong enough that when Neji used it on Kidomaru, he broke him through a very thick tree.
Hakkesho Kaiten (Heavenly Spin): This jutsu utilizes the chakra control gained through Jyuuken training to release a huge amount of chakra from all of the user's chakra points. The released chakra blocks any possible attack on the user. The user then spins rapidly to parry the attack, both creating a rotating shield of chakra around themselves and tossing away any nearby attackers. The user can also actively control the size and power of the sphere to suit the situation. This jutsu is only effective when rotating, since the chakra itself is not enough to stop a physical attack. If they cannot rotate, the user becomes vulnerable.

Personality: After he lost a battle to Naruto, he began to see that people can choose their own fates.
After proving that he could overcome his destiny (or abandoning the idea of fatalism), Neji decided to lead a new path in life. When he decided this, he also chose to never lose another battle in his life. In his attempt to achieve this, he decided to work more with his team than for himself, encouraging his teammates to do what they wanted and even telling Rock Lee to do his best and that he would eventually reach his dreams.
Along with this, Neji started to work on fixing his relationship with the Hyuuga Main branch. It was a bit of a strain, but he is slowly fixing the estranged relations between himself and the family. He's even taken to becoming more protective over Hinata and Hanabi.
To put it easily, Neji's personality is rather . . repressed. He doesn't exactly show much emotion, but it's most likely hidden somewhere in all that seriousness.
He's almost always got a straight look on his face and a serious look in his eyes. It takes him a while to loosen up, though he can relax. Sometimes. When he isn't fighting, he's probably off doing his smiling alone, where no one can see. He is very loyal to his friends and will do anything to protect them, even if it means sacrificing himself to do so.
Though, Neji is glad Naruto was able to influence him to change his outlook on the world and make him stronger in a way. It's made him a better fighter and an even a better teammate.
History: Not much is known about Neji's birth. After his cousin Hinata had her 3rd birthday, Neji was taken by Hiashi Hyuuga and had the Hyuuga Main Family's Juinjutsu applied to his forehead. After seeing his father being punished for merely thinking about treachery, Neji began to see himself as a helpless `caged bird,` forced to obey the main branch of the family. Around this time, his father had begun to see Neji's natural talent. After his father sacrificed himself for the main family, Neji mistakenly believed that the main branch had forced him to do so and the event became the primary basis of his grudge against the main branch.
A year before the start of the series, Neji graduated at the top of his class and was placed in Team Gai with Maito Gai as the Jonin leader, and Rock Lee and Tenten as his teammates. After officially being promoted to Genin, Neji declined to reveal his dream and laughed at Rock Lee for claiming that he could become a great ninja with just taijutsu. During their first year in Team Gai, Lee challenged Neji many times, but lost every time. Gai decided to have his team wait a year before taking the Chunin Exams in order to ensure that they were prepared. At some point before his first Chunin Exam, Neji's animosity toward the main branch became apparent to Gai, who made him promise not to let the issue influence his feelings during the exam.
To decrease the number of genin participating in the exam finals, one-on-one matches were organized to eliminate the weaker Genin. Neji was paired up against Hinata. His attitude toward Hinata angered Naruto, who cheered for the kunoichi. Although Hinata seemed to defeat Neji, Neji revealed to Hinata that he had plugged off Hinata's chakra points, rendering her Gentle Fist useless. He also hit a chakra point close to one of Hinata's vitals moments before, putting Hinata in critical condition. However, Hinata refused to back down, insisting that Neji, not she, was fighting against what could not be changed. Neji was about to administer a killing blow when Kakashi Hatake, Hayate, Kurenai, and Maito Gai stepped in to save the wounded shinobi. After the fight, Naruto swiped up some of Hinata's blood, which she had coughed up due to the damage near her vitals, and swore to defeat Neji. Neji also told Naruto to give up, since there was no way for him to defeat the Hyuuga, using `fate` as his reasoning.
Neji was pitted against Naruto in the first rounds of the finals. Although Neji soon gained the advantage and cut off Naruto's chakra flow, Naruto was determined to fight against Neji, inspired by Hinata and Lee's bravery and angered by the way Neji belittled and had almost killed Hinata. Naruto tapped into the power of the nine-tailed fox and was able to keep up with Neji for a time. Neji's Heavenly Spin protected him from Naruto's attacks, but when he approached a supposedly defeated Naruto, Naruto popped out of a tunnel he dug in the ground and uppercut Neji in the jaw, defeating him.
Neji was angry with himself for falling for Naruto's signature technique, but Naruto revealed that the technique used to be his worst one, and that he only became good at it through practice. Neji then heard of his father's fate from his uncle and broke down in tears. When Hiashi bowed before Neji in forgiveness, Neji asked him to rise and forgave him. Neji then silently told his father that he wished to change his destiny just like he had, and that he hoped to never lose again.
Neji was recruited as part of the five-man team to retrieve Sasuke from the Sound Four on Lee's recommendation. Shikamaru assigned Neji the hardest task of the single line in taking the rear guard, watching the back with his Byakugan. After Choji's fight with Jirobo, Neji's opponent was Kidomaru, who was able to analyze his defenses and find the blind spot in his Byakugan. Neji realized that Kidomaru was far more powerful than he was, and that he was in the same situation that Lee, Hinata and Naruto had been in. Neji was determined never to give up, though, as he wanted to show those who considered him a genius that their faith in him was correct and to prove that he no longer surrendered to fate. Neji was severely wounded when Kidomaru converted his cursed seal mark to level 2, allowing him to fire arrows at impossibly fast speeds. The arrow was connected to a string, which was directly controlled by Kidomaru. Neji initially tried to avoid the arrows, but after being impaled once and sliced on the cheek, he allowed himself to be hit and channeled chakra through the web attached to the last one, severely injuring Kidomaru. He then caught and struck Kidomaru repeatedly with Gentle Fist, mortally wounding him. Despite Kidomaru's dying words that Sasuke had fallen to darkness, Neji was confident that Naruto could make him see reason the same way he had done for him. Although he was near death after the battle, he was saved with the help of Shizune and other medical ninja.
Over the timeskip, Neji retook the Chunin Exam and passed, and later was promoted to Jonin rank, being the only genin from Konoha to achieve this during the timeskip. He made his first appearance when Tsunade requested that Team Gai travel to Land of Wind to aid Team Kakashi
During their traveling, the team was met by Pakkun who redirected them to the Akatsuki hideout in the land of river. When Zetsu saw them, they were quickly encountered by Kisame Hoshigaki, who was later revealed to be a clone, due to Pein's impersonation technique.
Through Team Gai's battle with Kisame's clone, Neji was successful in freeing himself, Tenten, and Lee from Kisame's water prisons. Neji looked into the Akatsuki base, saw a statue, then said that he couldn't explain what was happening inside. He then found four out of the five seals with his Byakugan. While Naruto and Kakashi pursued Deidara, Chiyo and Sakura fought Sasori, Neji fought a clone of himself, created by his removing the seals to the Akatsuki hideout.
When Konoha is invaded, Team Gai had been completing a mission. On their way back Tenten stops the group, telling them that they should have a break, when Gai stated that he noticed that birds were flying away from Konoha, as if they were escaping something. Neji admitted that he `had a bad feeling` and that they should go back to Konoha right away, much to Tenten's dismay. Of course, when they arrive, they find out about Naruto's fight with Pain and what had happened to Hinata.
Luckily, thanks to Sakura, Hinata was able to be saved. Once they hear about Naruto going to find Pain (or Nagato), Neji instantly wants to go with him and help, but is told to stay behind and let Naruto handle it himself.
The next time we see Neji is when he suggests that Shikamaru tell Sakura and Naruto about Sasuke, since he failed at the Chuunin exams and when he's talking to Naruto about seeing Sasuke again.
