This is the one DmC did an audiobook for isn't it? It's so funny!

I have the audiobook as well and it is good
- his reading of the girl who drowned herself is terribly touching and the mustaken identity bit is a hoot - but it is abridged.
The full title of the book is Three Men In A Boat To Say Nothing Of the Dog and the audiobook omits all of Montmorency's thoughts and activities.
But I find it hilarious and even knowing the episodes I still howl with laughter.

I also have Three Men on the Bummel which did not do as well but still makes me laugh. I think part of that relates to a square in Prague but i may be forgetting.

I like the way the nonsense just keeps building up in the book, so each episode is funnier than the one before :)
They should have kept Montmorency in the audio version, though I suppose you have to edit if you want to keep it at a manageable length.

I played this reading for my dad one of the last times he visited us--he couldn't see well enough to read at that point. He also didn't really like much of anything by then, but he was laughing at these stories.

In German, "Bummel" means a stroll or a ramble. I wonder if that's what the title refers to.

I like the trend of using paintings as cover art for paperbacks. Who's the artist of this one?

I haven't read the book, but I see from Wikipedia that it is funny and about the Thames. Ah, another entry on The List!

You may recognise parts of it. The episode with the fish in the glass case was in my reading book at primary school in the 1960s and the cheese episode also crops up in compilations. I find it all hilarious.

This was a replacement book and the cover is a detail from a photograph around 1900 by an FJ Mortimer then hand coloured.

I didn't realise it was a photograph. Beautiful composition.

It sounds as though reading would be the way to go, not the audio book. I'll tell you if I manage it!
