Drabble Chaos Thread Party First Meeting
"Well, you turned out interesting."
"..."
"So you wound up with Whitebeard, eh? Good man, that guy. A better rival a pirate couldn't ask for."
". . ."
"And you met Shanks! He's done well for himself. Bright boy, that one, had the makings of a great pirate even as an apprentice. He made a good choice with Luffy too."
". . ."
"Brothers now. I have to admit, I did not see that coming. Garp's grandson, a great pirate. It's amazing how bad that man is at raising Marines, isn't it? Too ethical, I guess. He always had great strength of character. A damned good foe, he was. A really worthy opponent."
". . ."
"It's a pity you never met Rayleigh though, he would have liked - where are you going?"
"Back."

In another life
In another life, Luffy never meets Shanks.
Six years before Shanks arrives in Fuusha, Garp leaves his grandson with Dadan. Luffy's first word is "Ace"; his second-through-fifth words are swears. Luffy learns how to walk from Ace, how to run from Dadan, and how to be really, really quiet from his Grandpa.
Luffy grows up worshiping his older brother, as Ace loves him.
He grows up hearing the words Ace chases after, sees the hurt that people's thoughtless comments deal to his brother. Grows up learning that being the son of Gol D. Roger is a burden and a matter of deepest shame, that pirates are a scourge; that Ace's blood is tainted.
But Luffy is still Luffy.
If people (distant, unkind, hurtful) are wrong about Ace, who is wonderful, then maybe they're wrong about Roger too. Maybe Roger was wonderful!
Ace is not amused.
But the thought sticks, and Luffy thinks: maybe pirates are wonderful.
And Luffy decides: he's going to be the best pirate ever. He's going to sail all over the place, and make loads of friends, and have fantastic adventures, and find One Piece and be the Pirate King!
And it's going to be great.

Narcolepsy
They probably should have warned Luffy about the narcolepsy.
But Ace takes it for granted, and it would never occur to Dadan that Luffy might need warning and Gramps doesn't tell people things.
So when Ace falls asleep mid-sentence in front of his new little brother for the first time, he wakes up to screaming.
"Ace! ACE!" Someone is shaking him and Luffy sounds like he's in trouble but when Ace bolts upright and opens his eyes it's just the two of them.
"What, did you think I was dead?" He asks, half-kidding.
"I...!!!" Luffy is staring at him, eyes scrunched up in misery, tears and snot running down his face and Ace shoves the unhappy feeling this raises in him away and smacks his brother.
"What are you crying for!?! Don't act like people are dead when they're not, dummy!"
Luffy sniffles and Ace feels a tiny bit worse. Time to fix this. Right.
"I'm not gonna die, no matter what! That's a promise!!" He glares at Luffy to make sure he's paying attention. "Like hell I'd die and leave my weak little brother all on his own!"
Luffy hiccups and smears snot all over the back of his hand as he wipes the tears off his face but he nods solemnly and Ace feels more like a big brother and less like he's just pretending.
The next time he passes out, Ace wakes up to find Luffy snuggled up to him, taking the opportunity for a nap of his own.

Cuddling
"Ow! You just stuck your elbow in my face. Luffy what are you-?"
"I'm cold."
"So... get a blanket."
"..."
"..."
"I'm cold."
"... Fine! You can sleep with me."
"Thanks Ace!"
"-! You just stepped on me!"
"Sorry."
"Move over."
"I'm gonna fall off!"
"Better?"
"Mmm, g'night."
"... Next time don't wake me."
