I made a card, but... um, I'll have to wait till you've read the new chapter to post it ^^; (sorry)
Standing between Luffy and danger was second nature by now. Une was pleased to see how much he'd grown, and unsurprised to find him running from trouble, a determined Marine hot on his heels. It was the story of their childhood.
She was surprised by the familiar figure running alongside Luffy, however. It had been nearly three years since she last saw Kuina, one still night back in East Blue where they shared sake and talked about strength and dreams and little brothers.
But questions about Kuina would have to wait. Une put the swordswoman from her mind as she focused on her opponent and Luffy beat a hasty retreat.
It wasn't until she'd given Marine Whateverhisnameis the slip and caught up to them that Une realized the absurd: Kuina was part of Luffy's crew!
This was good.
Surrounded by strong women all his life, Luffy would never take Kuina's strength as anything but a matter of course. And Kuina's swords would guard Luffy's back, out here in the pirates' graveyard; Kuina understood about little brothers.
It was also hilarious.
Une would have loved to stay and catch up; she'd missed Luffy and she really wanted to hear by what insane chain of events Kuina wound up sailing with her little brother. Sailing under her brother's command, of all things.
But Une was on a mission. She couldn't rest while Satch's soul waited on revenge. There would be time enough for that later.
When this was all over she would find Luffy and Kuina and this wonderful, young crew and they would trade stories to their hearts' content.
It was a promise.
"See you at the top, guys."
And now we all pretend this doesn't end tragically ¬¬ (hey, it's our AU, we can decide Une walks away from Marinford alive!)
Bizarrely, half-way through writing this I got the image of Ace and Satch and Sabo having an epic party in the afterlife. With chopsticks. (You know Satch would have enjoyed the chopstick dance, if he didn't already know it). Roger's not invited. Poor Roger.
If I had any artistic skills whatsoever I would draw this: Sabo, Ace, and Satch, arms over each others' shoulders, doing the chopstick dance. Rouge and Whitebeard are laughing and Roger in is his own Corner of Gloom because Ace still won't speak to him.
And one day, years and years and years from now, Luffy will arrive and the afterlife might just explode from sheer Partyness. SUPER! /o/ *sigh* it's so much harder to approximate Franky's SUPER pose with the keyboard
Please note that I have never, ever made any claims at sanity >.>
