Just a note to say that I’ll be at the Association of Writers and Writing Program’s Annual Conference in Boston next week. (And I’m super excited because, while AWP isn’t huge for genre or YA authors, Jane Yolen will be there, too. Huh. I don't remember seeing you at the Jane Yolen event, but then, that was how long ago? And I didn't know you then.

I was sitting in the back doodling in my sketchbook while listening to her.

Add to it that I was 17 at the time with long straight hair, so I looked fairly different than I do now. I went to the public event where she gave her talk, but it was at the awards ceremony for the contest-winning kids the next day that she liked my dress. (I was going to say I nearly came apart at the seams, but then I realized how very, very wrong that sound given that I'm talking about her complimenting my outfit. What I mean is: I was terribly, terribly excited.)
