Egg

Inspired by Chocolate and Zucchini, a belated birthday gift from my friend Julie, I made my first ever soft-boiled egg for lunch. I had to improvise an egg cup, but a little Christmas shot glass in the breakfront served admirably well. How long did you cook it for? 3 minutes in rolling boil water should do it unless it's an ostrich egg. :)

I love soft boiled eggs. Had them a lot when I was a kid, with buttered toast cut into strips. We called them 'soldiers'.

The recipe called for bringing the water to a rolling boil, slipping the eggs in, and then once the water was boiling again, reducing to a simmer for 4 minutes. I just realized that I was supposed to use room-temperature eggs, though, so that might account for mine being a little underdone.

I'll have to give your method a try, though, since it seems less fussy.

I like the idea of little toast soldiers. :)

My mom made soft-boiled eggs for me when I was little. I always enjoyed them, especially with a neat little egg cup.
