Plagiarism

As some of you might already know, yesterday a writer (I use that word advisedly) began posting my story, A Writer of Fictions, on ff.net, claiming it as her own. She quite literally stole it, word for word, right down to the title. Her name: pen_in_the_wind ( Read more... )

Krissy, you are my hero! You were amazing, leaping to my defense with all the big guns blazing away! Being stuck on that train all day and feeling so helpless while all this was happening was difficult. But you made me feel so much better with six initial and very simple words: "Let me take care of it."

*HUGS YOU BACK*

I'm sorry you were traveling when it was discovered, but my dear, this is an awesome fandom, and we've totally got your back!

Being plagiarized is a horrid feeling, and although we write in a world not our own, we are very open about the origin of our characters. Your work took tremendous effort and talent and time, and it is wholly your own. We, your readers, are lucky enough to come along for an enjoyable ride.

My goodness, thank you so much!! Both for this lovely, supportive reply and also for taking the plagiarist to task in a PM. bunney sent me the link to the entire thread of comments, starting with your own post telling about the nasty exchange you had with pen_in_the_wind. I can only hope this is truly the end of it, but I'm not so sure.

Believe me it was my pleasure. There are few things I loathe more than plagiarists, and this one is a rapid little thing.

{{{HUGS}}} I'm sorry that you had to go through this. How anyone thinks they can get away with such a blatant theft of such an iconic fic just baffles me. I mean, not even changing the name? (Or the H&V disclaimer?)

At least it was resolved quickly.

Yes, I'm grateful for that! The nerve and stupidity of some people baffles me. But at least it was caught quickly. I would hate to think she'd have got away with stealing the entire fic!

:-)Thanks so much, Diane! *hugs you back*
