Thinking about stories

Feb 07, 2017 22:06

I think about things all the time. I used to write them down more, years ago. There's that song by 21 Pilots that goes “I've been thinking too much, help me”. That's so true. My husband doesn't understand how someone can think too much. His brain is a really different sort of place then mine is ( Read more... )

planning, writing, rambling, plot, self-indulgent, don't mind me, i've been thinking too much

I wouldn't worry too much about things being too simple - in my experience the simple ideas are the best ones.

And yeah, I agree with Digthewriter, just write what makes you happy, because i think you can tell if an author believes in what they are writing.

I tend to get a bit lost in the world I am writing, I end up feeling like I know the characters too well, does that make sense? When I wrote my ACBB last year it actually took me ages to get out of the headset for that particular fic, and I couldn't get my head around the fact that Arthur is not disabled in canon and therefore I couldn't move on and write a different version of him for ages - I wanted to do a fic based on the film Top Hat for Reel, and I kept assessing how well Arthur would be able to tap dance with one leg before I would realise he didn't have to have only one leg, I still haven't written that fic. I honestly don't know how people write completely different fics one after the other, or even at the same time, and they do it so well! I am completely in awe of

That's so interesting about how the mind set stuck with you for so long. I haven't really had that happen to me, but I also haven't changed the characters much from canon, so I can't really judge.

I think I have a harder time changing the tone of the writing, from being cute and funny to not cute and funny. The cute and funny comes out pretty easy. I'm not as sure about the rest of it.

I read and commented on your acbb. I remember liking it. :-)

I think about this a lot: 'I spend time thinking about why those kinds of things would be exciting to read about anyway? I imagine it has to do with identifying with the character, and then perhaps they get rescued and it gives the other characters the chance to express their love/concern? And if you identify with the character, you experience that emotion vicariously ( ... )

So I went and read how to love a living thing again, since I'm on a sort-of quest to understand what pushes my buttons. It's wonderful, of course. (It's one of those stories that as I read there will be sections where I say to myself, "I could never write this" and despair. That's one reason I can't read as much when I'm trying to write.) In terms of pushing my buttons in that lovely exciting (almost sexual? But an emotional version?) way, there were a couple of great spots. (I wish you could leave notes on individual paragraphs/words like in Google documents... Now that I've gotten used to that for beta-ing I for it in everything ( ... )

I've been meaning to reply to this for ages! Firstly, our outlooks are freakily alike on fanworks so I'm wondering if it's more common in fandom than I ever thought. I had the exact same thing about kidnap on tv and stuff when I was a kid. And I always have a had a physical reaction to certain types of h/c fics which is not sexual but physical all the same. I can't describe it ( ... )
