*sigh* I remember what it was like for me growing up...I'm trying to make sure my kids don't do the same stupid things that I did ( Read more... )

I would say that you should take a good look at your daughter and her friend. Is your daughter growing up to be the responsible, honest person you want her to be and has she learned the morals you taught her and that you want her to believe in? What about her friend? Do you trust her parents have done the same in raising her? Do you trust your daughter's judgement in choosing this person as her friend ( ... )

Thank you for taking the time to read this and respond. My daughters friends are good kids but they are still young, impressionable, and inexperianced....I don't always agree with the way that they go about doing things, including their respect for authority...I care about all of her friends a lot!! but for the moment I'd rather err on the side of caution...at least for now...they are in the 8th grade...speading their wings they want to soar too high too quickly in my opinion...time will tell...I do give her plenty of opportunities to fly. :)

Absolutely not. I think that's just being a responsible parent ( ... )

The world is way different now then when I was a kid (I'm 39 till Dec) I've done similar things that you've done...and worse as a kid. Today it seems kids learn about "things" at a much younger age. (sex and drugs-2 kids in 8th grade at Sunshine's school had ODed on Coke on the bus. That is one of many examples just last year ( ... )

I too remember all the stuff we used to get away with and do as kids when we were alone... and I was the "good" kid! I'd have to say things were even worse when another kid was added in to the mix. 13 is pretty young and relatively innocent. Strangely enough, I would be less trusting as she got older, but then again, I know what I did at those ages!

I don't think it's unreasonable for her to not be home alone with a friend. Too much can happen that's not even their fault. Kids panic in emergencies.
