Summary, Junsu thinks Yoochun's pathetic because he's chasing after someone who doesn't love him back.

Because it is almost certain that you will find snow in such locations, and plenty of space to practice winter sports or simply fool around in the snow, mountain resorts are the ideal winter holidays’ spot, and that’s why…

“And that’s why I’m so glad our group booked the lodge in advance!” Jaejoong said, delighted, as he pulled the curtains and stepped outside the room onto the balcony, his big brown eyes taking in the dreamlike mountain landscape.

“Oh my god, it’s beautiful! I haven’t seen so much snow in my life, it’s all so WHITE!” Jaejoong spazzed as he stood outside the room on the wooden balcony.

Jaejoong’s excitement over nature’s beauty, however, had no influence over his roommate for 3 days; in fact, Junsu had to bite his tongue to prevent himself from screaming ‘CLOSE THE GODDAMN DOOR BEFORE I FREEZE  TO DEATH!’, together with many colourful words directed at his friend who had been kind enough to leave the door wide open. But he was still contemplating on locking the other out if Jaejoong wasn’t done letting ‘all the damn heat out of the room’ by the time he finished unpacking his clothes.

“Oh, Yoochun!” Junsu heard Jaejoong scream and turned around just in time to see Jaejoong bending over the balcony to his left, the wall blocking half of his figure. Junsu’s ears pricked up as he tried to hear the conversation taking place outside, to no avail, however, as Jaejoong had poorly chosen the time to actually be quiet.

He was about to give up on his poor attempt at eavesdropping when Jaejoong suddenly popped out from behind the door.

“Junsu, guess who is staying in the room next to us?!” Jaejoong urged his friend with enthusiasm.

“Hm, I don’t know…Santa Claus?” Junsu replied sarcastically.

Jaejoong pouted and furrowed his eyebrows. “You’re no fun at all,” he whined, “and Yoochun says hello. He’s staying in the next room with Changmin.”

“Good to know, I’ll try to squeeze that information into my brain,” Junsu said rolling his eyes.

“Oh, and he invited us to a mug of mulled wine this evening, before we all gather for the new year’s party,” Jaejoong continued to ramble on as he leaned against the rail, eyes back on the landscape. Junsu zipped up his suitcase and walked towards his friend, stopping right before the door sash, and counting to 10 in his head. “Well, actually, everyone’s invited so it’s more a matter of who will actually go, and,…” …and... that’s how Jaejoong got locked up on the balcony.

‘I think I’m gonna go take a shower’, the red-head decided, grabbing his toiletries.

When he came out of the bathroom, half an hour later, rather than quivering in fear due to murderous look Jaejoong was sending him, he was more puzzled as to how his friend had managed to get back inside the room. The balcony door was still closed and Jaejoong was sitting on the double bed watching TV. He didn’t have to ponder how such a thing was possible for too long, though, as his roommate was fast to reproach the struggle he had to go through in order to get back in.

“I had to jump the balcony and get Yoochun to open his door for me. And THEN I had to look for the receptionist to give a spare key since SOMEBODY didn’t hear my insistent knocking. Thanks a lot, jackass.” Jaejoong glared at his friend.

Junsu merely shrugged.

He downed his 3rd mug of mulled wine and smiled at his friend Eunhyuk who was saying something about… bulgogi ? He wasn’t really sure since he wasn’t paying attention as he was too busy watching Yoochun, who just happened to be occupying the seat next to him, talking to that thing. Taeyeon-aka “that thing” was complaining to him about her sore feet due to too much skating. All that girl had to do was bat her eyelashes and next thing you know, Yoochun was pulling her legs on his lap and started massaging them.

Junsu was raging inside. ‘Can’t that fool see she’s only using him because she knows he likes her?!’ he fumed. ‘Carrying her books on campus, always accompanying her wherever her royal-pain-in-the ass wishes to go, although it’s obvious she only likes the attention and not him. Seriously,” , Junsu thought to himself, “can that guy get any more stupid?! Can he not see what is staring him right in the face? Can’t he, can’t he… can’t he see me instead?’ Junsu’s lowered his head to hide the wave of sadness that came over him.

“Junsu, are you alright? Are you not feeling well?” his friend’s concerned voice reached his ears.

“I’m fine, Eunhyuk, don’t worry, just a bit dizzy; it’s probably the wine," Junsu assured his friend, “The atmosphere is a bit stuffy in here, I think I’m gonna go out for some fresh air.” He said and stood up. He signalled for Eunhyuk not to follow when he saw that the other was about to stand up too.

“I will be fine, mom,” Junsu mocked and headed towards the door.

Once he was out of the lodge he went and sat on the porch swing, letting out a deep breath. ‘Damn Yoochun and damn me for letting him affect me like this’, Junsu thought to himself bitterly. He was so caught up in his thoughts he didn’t notice the door opening again until he felt someone sitting next to him. He didn’t need to turn around to know who it was; from the corner of his eyes he could spot the beginning of a too familiar profile- after all, he had been staring at it secretly for the past few years.

“They are starting to bring in the drinks and food for the New Year’s party.” Yoochun started casually, pulling out his cigarette pack and lighter.

“It's one thing to ruin your health, which is not at all my concern, but why do I have to suffer when I actually came out here to take a breath of fresh air?” Junsu spoke in a monotone voice, referring to his friend’s unhealthy habit. Yoochun seemed to pay no heed to his objection as he proceeded to light up his cigarette. The red-head turned around to face him, and glared at his companion’s actions. He watched as Yoochun brought the cigarette to his lips, taking a deep drag as if Junsu didn’t even exist.

‘Why can’t you see me?’

That’s when something inside him snapped.

“You know you’re pathetic, right?” Junsu questioned off-handedly, lips pressing into a thin line as soon as the words came out of his mouth.

The red-head felt quite proud of himself as he saw Yoochun’s fazed expression. But soon enough the other was back to his composed self.  He raised an eyebrow, as if daring Junsu to continue.

“You’re in love with that Taeyeon-girl, aren’t you? You follow her around like a lost puppy, yet she never responds to your advances, does she?” Junsu didn’t miss the look of surprise on Yoochun’s face; in fact, it’s what spurred him to keep talking. “Yeah, she’s popular, and somewhat pretty, but you’ve never seen beyond that, have you? You are just another one of those guys that are only interested in the surface,” he scoffed,  “but it’s not like she’s bothered by it. After all, because of this, she’s got you wrapped around her finger and all you can do is keep trying to get her to like you, making a fool of yourselve in front of others just to make her accept you as something more than just another idiot following her around, even though it’s never going to happen. And that’s why you’re pathetic… Happy New Years, Yoochun.” Junsu finished and sat up to get back inside.

“Junsu…” Yoochun called out right before his hand touched the doorknob. He turned towards Yoochun with his poker face on. He was not going to let Yoochun see him sad, he was not going to let him see him crumble, and for once, just for once he will leave the other knowing that he was a winner. He had said what he had wanted to say, and nothing was going to make him take it back. He was more than ready for any type of reaction from Yoochun.

Okay, maybe not any type, because he certainly was not expecting Yoochun’s mouth to spread into a goofy smile since this sort of reaction- In Junsu’s opinion, simply didn’t fit the scenario; that is, until he heard Yoochun’s voice.

“…You do know Taeyeon is my cousin, right?”

~*~

‘Maybe I could stay here for the rest of my life?’ Junsu contemplated from under 2 sets of blankets. ‘Or I could move to another country, or change my identity and fly into space, or get myself abducted by aliens, or…’ “ALL OF THEM COMBINED”, Junsu cried as he hit his head against the pillow repeatedly. He had been hiding in his room for the past 2 hours, refusing and throwing tantrums when Jaejoong tried to get him to come down for the party. There was no way in hell he was facing Yoochun after what had just happened, after what he had done- the false accusations part, not the scurrying to his room like a chicken after Yoochun told him that small piece of information- or maybe … both were things that made him look like a total idiot in front of the other?...

And that’s how he went back to thinking of new ways to make himself disappear from the face of the Earth. He thrashed around in his bed for a few minutes until he heard someone knocking at the door.

One knock

Two knocks

… And… he lost track of the number of knocks.

He wrapped the blankets around him and went to answer the door.

“Who is it?” he asked in a tiny voice but no one answered. He was beginning to think the other person had left, when softer knocks were heard from the other side of the room, and this time, Junsu realized, they were coming from the balcony.

Because it was darker outside, Junsu couldn’t see who it was. He walked carefully towards the glass door and pressed his face against it.

“Open up Junsu, I’m freezing!” Yoochun yelled from the balcony and Junsu could see he was wearing only a t-shirt.

In a split second, the red-head removed his head from the glass and swallowed loudly. ‘Maybe I could just pretend I didn’t see him…’

“And don’t you dare pretend you didn’t see me!” Yoochun barked from outside.

“Damn it!” Junsu cursed out loud, yanking the door open and running towards the bed for shelter. Of course, he wasn’t lucky enough to make it till there as he tripped over the blankets and fell onto the floor with a loud thud.

‘Play dead, Junsu, he’ll leave you alone, he won’t attack someone who’s in a weak state’, Junsu childishly thought to himself, all bundled up in his blankets.

He could hear Yoochun closing the door with a sigh and kneeling somewhere next to him, onto the floor.

“Junsu, can we have a serious conversation?” he asked in a soft voice, poking his friend's form through the material.

“I can’t, I’m sleeping,” Junsu whined from under the blankets.

“Kim Junsu… Yah, Kim Junsu,” Yoochun’s hands nudged Junsu in the side earning him a string of exaggerated whimpers.

“Yah, Kim Junsu, what happened to your cool façade from 2 hours ago?” Yoochun demanded, half-complaining.

“It vanished soon after, along with my dignity,” Yoochun could almost see the other’s pout from under the fabric and couldn’t help but smile at his friend’s behavior.

“Don’t worry about it, Junsu ah, that’s not what I wanted to talk to you about.” A moment of silence followed after which Yoochun could see Junsu struggling to get out of his “temporary” shelter. A patch of red hair, 2 tear-shaped eyes, a button nose, and finally 2 rosy lips emerged from the blanket fortress, Junsu staring wide-eyed at the man next to him.

“It's not?”

Yoochun rolled his eyes.

“God, Junsu, you seemed so sure about me going after Taeyeon, like you took pride in how observant you are and … “

“I thought you said you weren’t going to talk about that,” Junsu accused and pointed his finger towards Yoochun through the thick fabric of the blanket ( or at least that’s what Yoochun hoped Junsu was pointing….)

“What I meant to say is,” Yoochun started off, slowly, “If you had actually been paying attention, you’d have been able to see that it wasn’t Taeyeon I was going after,” He said suggestively.

“…Oh…” Junsu lowered his pointy finger and Yoochun could tell from the look on his face that the other still hadn’t caught on.

In the background, they could hear people starting to countdown till midnight.

9-Yoochun was beginning to lose his patience.

7- Junsu was staring at the floor.

5- “Junsu”, Yoochun called out.

3- The red-head looked up

1- Yoochun’s lips pressed against Junsu’s.

0-Loud cheers can be heard from downstairs as fireworks are being set off one after another.

3 seconds after midnight.

“Oooh!” It finally dawns on Junsu. Yoochun just chuckles.

“Happy New Year, Junsu.”
