Six weeks and still waiting for something to happen

Apr 16, 2010 12:50

Today marks six weeks.  I'm about to head downtown for my third shot.  So far, nothing of note has happened, besides the rash, which is now gone.  I suppose I could take 200 mg/2 weeks as standard and say that this is really more like a week and a half than six weeks.  Well, perhaps ( Read more... )

It may not be doing something visible, but it's not doing nothing. It's in your system. I don't know what the expectations are for visible change in that dosage, but all medications that I've ever taken have never worked exactly like the doctor supposed. Some take a while to build up, some are more immediate.

Don't lose hope yet. It's not nothing, I know it's not.

The doctor told me just about nothing about when to actually expect any changes, although she did go over what those changes would be (nothing I didn't already know). There's not a lot of information out there about when to expect specific changes to occur, and I suppose that's because it varies so much from person to person. Also, as far as I'm aware, this endocrinologist doesn't really have a standard dose that she starts people at. I don't know what she bases it on, which is frustrating. Really the only thing she told me to expect was that my period would stop soon, but I can tell already that that's not going to be the case.

Also, in what may be TMI, I was told by other people on T that their sex drives increased within hours of their first shots. Me? Nothing.

I think that and a couple of other changes are sometimes psychosomatic. This is the mythology that people have heard about starting T, and so then they make that happen for themselves.

You should ask your endo why she starts people at where she starts them.

But yeah something is happening in your body whether it is visible or not.

If you are unhappy with your dosage, then try to negotiate that too. More is not necessarily better.
I started at a low dose and ramped up, but that is what worked for me. Also, I do a weekly shot cycle to have less of trough to deal with - in theory anyway. And emotionally that works out for me too.

You probably don't want to hear this, but I was on "full dosage" (200 mL biweekly) for three months before I started seeing any changes. As you know, it all depends on your genetics, and blah blah blah. Having said that, your feeling of discouragement is understandable. Hopefully the endo will have some answers for you when you next see her.
