Facebook and their user policy

Apr 27, 2007 07:40

Facebook has kind of exploded in the media lately, but so far I didn't register, since I don't see the use of networking, just to network. And yesterday someone pointed me to their user agreement, and now I'm definitely ain't gonna register. Some of the parts that made me react are the following:

I read through it and I joined after all. I'm not sure how long I will stay though. With so many people joining, they wouldn't really start spamming them all, would they? It also says "By using the Site or the Service, you are consenting to have your personal data transferred to and processed in the United States", which was made me not want to register in the first place. But you know, "everyone" is there, and it did make me find back to all my classmates from primary school except for three, and it's good for reunion and things like that.

I would never give out any private information though, except from my real name, which I haven't really given out anywhere else, and you can change your real name all the time, so it's not something they could really rely on.

I do understand those who won't register though. They're probably the smartest ones.
