IMO, the most important thing is to do *something* The "what" isn't as important as the consistency. The other most important thing is to select something that is sustainable. It's no good abusing yourself if doing so means you'll be death warmed over the next day. Take it easy, work yourself up gradually and you'll find a rhythm.

Hillel gets on the treadmill 6 out of 7 days. He's done running, walking and the in-between. He's found that running kicked his ass, but jogging, while still working up a sweat left him still feeling human and more refreshed than wiped out. He tried fast walking, but it hurt his shins.

For me, when at a gym, I like getting on the treadmill for several reasons. I like the instant digital feedback. I like having something tangible to aim for (a little further). I like having a TV in front of me so I can think of other things while the time passes.

Anyway, congrats on walking/jogging/rowing/biking/whatevering down the exercise road. It's a good journey.

Like jeannegrrl said, it's more important to do something than worrying on switching around to different things each day. Personally, I love elliptical machines because they're easier on my joints.

My best advice would be to find something that you like, that way it will be easier for you to stick with it.

If you have the time to devote to it, I would also look into scheduling a one-time session with a personal trainer. That way they can take you around to all the machines and help figure out what works best for you. Heck, some of them may even be available at odd hours.

I dunno. Do what you do. Pick a part of you that you'd feel proud to be more muscled and work it, babyyyy!
