My parents' neighbours, some years ago, did the exact same thing - went out walking the dog and left a saucepan on the boil.

About a year later, lightning struck their house and it was on fire for reals. They saved it with minimale damage ;-)

my mum did that to the kettle, and then left the saucepan on the stove, I can't help looking at firemen.... the uniforms just get me going...

Burly men in helmets are the best. A few years ago, when I was living in Glenbrook, the house next door to mine burnt down. Started going at about 11PM and the firefighters came, and then restarted at about 5AM, so the firefighters came again. We hosed the tree overarching both properties, and gifted the brave lads with a case of beer we had lying around.

It was SWEET.

I have photos somewhere... the house was gutted.

Although fires are terrible and bad, it's great to be able to perve on the firemen!! :D

I'm pretty sure there was no actual fire, just a smoking pan.

Therefore, my perving is just.
