Memes: part of this balanced breakfast

Jun 10, 2008 20:16

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want -- good or bad. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people remember about you.

Driving to Cornell. Music choices & getting lost.

That reminds me: I really need to pick up a copy of Hedwig. Occasionally a snippet of it will pop into my head, and I'll be like "Hedwig! Cornell! Emily! Dang!"

Battle High, and the massive clusterfuck it eventually became, in spite of my best intentions. I'm sorry.

You were my first GM. I remember the adventures of the Property Destruction Brigade, or whatever our nickname was for the GURPS winter game we had with Micah, Drew, Andy and Joe. And playing my first Exalted game, where Heather-as-Abyssal was trying to convert people to her character's death cult, and Katie's character tried to start a fight (and lost).

As for non-RPG things, I remember sitting outside of Katie's locker talking before high school, about things both trivial and not, and the birthday card I made you sometime in high school joking about how neither one of us believed in Kim's astrology.

Ah, high-school gaming. So many of those campaigns were complete disasters, and yet I don't regret a minute of it. (Well, maybe I regret a couple of minutes of it. But not that many.)

Thinking about the rest of highschool makes me feel older than I probably ought to. Did we really have that much free time during our ostensible learning time? Were we really that young? Dangit, am I really turning 25 in three months? Argh!

(... sorry. They really were good times, but, y'know, ambush age angst.)

S'okay. lasafara did the same thing a couple of days ago to me, with her story about teenaged gamers discovering tabletop RPGs.

I will say high school gaming taught me my first rule of GMing: 'no GM's plan survives first contact with the players, so learn to improvise'.

I can't name a specific one, but there's been quite a few times we've been discussing random BS at a con, and you'd just be "Wait... what?" And the discussion just got funny-haha after that. Usually involving furry fandom.
