Here's something you don't hear everyday

Ok, so someone has been trying to pawn their cat off on us. As in, they're leaving cat food in front of our door (twice now), and now this cat is hanging around. It's a beautiful cat, cream colored with blue eyes and brown accents. But this is actually starting to piss me off ( Read more... )

Either lace the cat food with rat poison or take the damn thing to the pound.

I vote call the local animal shelter. If the cat is as pretty as you described it, it should find a suitable home fast.

And the rumors that cats and babies dont mix, isnt always true. Yes you do have to watch a cat around a baby, but you also have to watch kids around babies. If you have a cat when you are pregnant, it pretty much eliminates any problems with babies, health wise. :S About the only thing a pregnant woman cant do for her cats is clean the litter box. The ammonia level is hazardous.

Another thing you could do, is if they leave the food infront of your door, remove it ASAP! Dont let the cat think that your doorstep is its food dish.

That's annoying. I doubt anyone has bad intentions, honestly. Maybe they see the poor cat and know they can't afford to take care of it, but they see you guys as being relatively stable (two adults, a kid, someone has a job, etc) and better able to take care of it than they are? You know what happens when people make assumptions, but I really, really doubt it's because you pissed someone off. They're probably just not thinking their plan all the way through.

That said, I agree with psychotwinkie. Remove the food so that kitty doesn't think that that's where you go for food. Also, if he won't stop hanging around your door, use a squirt gun filled with cold water. It doesn't hurt them, and cats really, really don't like it. Just don't aim for the face. Keep squirting when he shows up or you notice him there. Pretty soon, he'll go away, especially if the food is gone as well.

Side note, I demand baby pictures. :)

Also, rub down your door with lemon pine-sol. Felines detest the smell of citrus and will go to great lengths to avoid it. Of course, they will only go great lengths if there's nothing to fight for. Like food. Get it off your step whenever you see it.

Oh, they hate Vicks Vapor Rub, too, by the way, although I don't know if you want your door smelling like vaporub. (See, Erin? My crack is good for something!)

also, you can try a little bit of vinegar. they really don't like it, and they especially hate the taste of it (if you load it in a squirt gun). if you do load it in a squirt gun, be sure not to squirt in the face.
