2010...Then and Now

Twenty-six years ago,  I went with friends to see "2010...The Year We Make Contact" at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood California.  Now that the eponymous year is concluding, I consider how different this year has been than I would have imagined when I went to see the film.  I am talking about  my personal life here, not how the world at large is ( Read more... )

Was that me you saw 2010 with? I don't remember.

I actually didn't have a specific vision for where I would be in 2010. I certainly wouldn't have imagined the desperate straits that I currently find myself. I did have the vague idea I would connect in some artistic way: an actor, an author or perhaps a game designer. But it is my fault that I became too obsessed with mundane everyday life and failed to take any risks to achieve any of these goals.

I played it safe and had everyday life strand me as my reward.

As for the world at large, the information technology hit pretty close. You can potentially video chat with someone on the opposite side of the earth, like in the film. But that's about it.

Yes, It was you, me, Sandy & Ralph. We dined (if you can call it dining) at the McDonalds' made to look like Rick's Cafe American from "Casablanca".
