Call me sometime and we'll talk advice - no, I'm not *just* going to say 'get a mac.' It's the sort of thing that is easier to have a conversation about than passive exchange. (Also, I wouldn't 100% rule out Dell yet, but I'll get back to you on why.)

Lenovo's not bad at all. They're built like tanks! I'm using a 5-year-old one (er, that is, a Thinkpad) to type this (I got it for free), and it's still pretty sweet. Pretty nice, good battery life. Bad speakers, but if you use headphones or speakers...
