I've been out of school for a dozen years now. I think I've ridden it as far as I care to. I'm ready to go back to school. How does one get started in this? Is this like buying a computer, do I need to know what I want ahead of time, or can I just take preliminary classes and figure it out as I go along?

This is a cute post and you should feel good.

Basically you apply, what school are you thinking about going to? For a lot of them you can apply online and since you've been out of school you don't have take the SAT or ACT (unless you already took them then I think you can just submit your scores).

Basically you can just apply to liberal arts and you can take what you want and fart around for a few semesters before selecting a major or transferring to a different department or school.

Ooookay. Now the tricky part: I HAVE NO MONEY. As in, "If I'm lucky, I have grocery money after I pay my bills." I have no interest in paying for college. What is the best way to go about getting my tuition paid by some other entity?
